Chapter 16

Lauren P.O.V.

I'm scared. I'm honestly so scared for Kenzie. We got her back but we don't know where Brandon is or how we're going to get rid of him. We've only had Kenzie back for a couple of hours. Right now she's sitting in her bed and I'm beside her. Johnny and Carson went to get food and Annie and Hayden went to the grocery store.
I'm so worried for Kenzie. I can tell she is too. If you look at her long enough you can tell she's not okay. I've been trying to talk to her but she doesn't really talk.
"La-Lauren" I hear her say. I turn to face her.
"what's up?" I say in a quiet voice.
"Where's Johnny?" She asks.
I can't help but make a small smile.
"He went with Carson to get food while you were sleeping, they'll be back soon." I respond.
"oh okay" she says and gives me a small smile.
It's the first time I've seen her smile in ages. How I've missed her.
*ting ting*
I hear the familiar sound of my phone ringing meaning someone's calling me. I get off the bed and walk over to my phone which is on the small table in the hotel room. I pick it up and look at the caller ID. It says unknown number. Me being the curious person I am, I answer it.
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
No response.
"Hello?" I say again, still nothing
I wait a couple of seconds then decide to just hang up. Before I'm able to though, I hear something. I listen closely.
"hey"
My eyes widen. I've heard that voice before. I quickly try to end the call but the voice stops me.
"don't hang up, listen to me"
no no no, this can not be happening, this isn't him this CAN'T be him.
"you think you've gotten away, you think your safe, you think this nightmare has ended," he pauses for a second.
"but guess what Lauren" he continues. I can feel his smirk through the phone.
"this is only the beginning"
I start biting my nails, an annoying nervous habit I've had since Kenzie was... taken.
I'm about to hang up when they speak again.
"oh I almost forgot" pause "see you soon, babe"
I let out a small gasp. I hear the sound that the other person has hung up.
At that exact moment when they hung up I hear a knock on the door. I squeeze my eyes shut.
This. Cannot. Be. Happening.
I turn around to look at Mackenzie. She's staring at the door with wide eyes. I see her shaking under the blanket as she holds it up to her mouth.
"you don't think it's-" she starts but is cut off by another knock.
"Lauren" she whispers, I can hear the fear in her voice.
"shh don't worry kenz" I say trying to reassure her. The truth is, I'm scared too.
I carefully make my way towards the door. There's no peep hole, just great.
I slowly unlock the door and open it just slightly to see outside. Once I see who it is I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding.
I open the door all the way and let out a loud sigh.
"It's just you" I say.
"Ouch" Carson says walking in.
"No, babe I meant it in a good way." I say with a small smile.
"What do you mean?" Johnny asks, walking over to the table.
"We thought you were, um"
"Brandon"
We all turn around to look at Kenzie. She's sitting crossed legged on the bed now. Johnny makes an O shape with his mouth as he puts down the boxes of pizza he was holding.
Carson looks over at me and I give him a half, sad smile. He walks over to me and gives me giant hug.
"Don't worry babe, she's going to be fine, she's safe now."
I bury my face in his chest and squeeze my eyes trying to keep the tears forming in my eyes from spilling.
