Everyone tosses their graduation caps into the air.

Cheers and claps reverbs through the venue.

Aimen finds you amongst the crowd and engulfs you in a hug.

"Congratz to us, Y/n!" She's barely holding in her tears. "All those sleepless night finally paid off but oh my god—Pinch me. I still think this is a dream."

You laugh at her struggling to keep her make up intact by fanning her face. She's then dragged away by her family for more picture taking.

Not a second too soon, mom and dad finally find you.

"I'm so proud of you, sweetheart." Mom hands you a huge bouquet that makes your heart melt.

"We're both proud of you." Dad adds, handing you a huge bouquet that makes your heart melt. "And who knows, maybe in a few more years, we'll have a doctor in the family."

The suggestive eyebrow raise makes you chuckle as mom snickers. "It's too early for that. You can rest first if you want, then maybe try working for a year or two for experience. And if the time comes when you want to proceed to medicine, we'll be here for you. No pressure."

The smile you had on melts when you notice a familiar presence behind them.

It can't be.

What's she doing here? You thought she'd stay in the states for good. Confusion's evident all over your face.

"Mrs Jeon?"

The last you saw her, she wasn't in the bestest shape. But now she's glowing. Almost as if five years never passed.

She comes closer to give you a hug. "Congratulation, my dear."

"It's so good to see you, Mrs Jeon."

"It's so good to see you too, dear." She pulls back to examine you. "Look at you? You've grown into a gorgeous woman. It feels like only yesterday when I was dressing you up like a Barbie doll. "She tucks a strand of hair behind your ear, reminiscing the past. "I'm so proud of you."

Then as if recalling something, she snaps out of it. "Oh, and there's someone I'd like you to meet."

She excuses herself. Your heart begins to pace.

Maybe because you already know who she meant by someone.

Frantic eyes search for your mom and she gives you an assuring smile.

"Let me hold this for you." Dad takes the bouquet from your arms, giving you an assuring nod. "It'll be fine."

You bite your lips. Will it though?

Mrs Jeon comes back with a young man dressed in white long sleeve shirt and neat black pants.

His hair's neatly swayed to the side, silver complementing his ears.

"Kookie." Mrs Jeon starts. "I'd like you to meet, Y/n."

Flashback

Three months after they left, your parents had to attend a business trip in the states.

And they thought it would be a good idea that the three of you paid Jungkook a visit.

Mr Jeon picked your family up on the airport and went on about how his wife refused to leave Jungkook's side and barely took time for herself.

Judging by his tone, it's obvious that he's worried for his wife's health.

He's pouring all this out in hopes that your mom could talk some sense into her.

At first, you didn't think much of it but the moment you say Mrs Jeon, it was as if you were looking at a different person.

She lost a lot of weight and visible circle shaded her eyes.

As you stood beside mom, you could hear her release a sigh as she drinks in her friend's current state.

After the quick exchange of greetings, mom managed to get Mrs Jeon out of the hospital. It took a lot of convincing but in the end, mom managed to persuade her that you've got everything covered and that you'd call her if anything happens.

"It's as if his whole personality's changed. He's got new likes and dislikes. You know how obsessed he is with lamb-skewers, right? Well not anymore. If he hated kiwis in the past, he loves them now."

He stops by a room with a huge glass window.

Inside is like some sort of gym.

"It's been two months since he started therapy but he's been showing progress."

Over there on the side, you spot two figures clad in scrub suits assisting a patient.

They're helping him walk.

"Shall we?"

Mr Jeon leads the way inside and you and your dad follow suit.

The first to notice you are the nurses. "Good afternoon Mr Jeon."

"Good job, Kookie. In just a few months you'll be running like a champ." Mr Jeon says proudly while patting his shoulder.

Jungkook laughs as the nurses help him on the wheelchair.

"Months? More like weeks." He says back with a light hearted chuckle, brushing his hair back.

"That's the spirit."

His gaze lands on you and he smiles politely.

Seeing as to how he isn't shooting you a scowl or a smug look, you're convinced now.

Jungkook really doesn't remember you.

"Kookie, that's your uncle James and his daughter, Y/n. They're good friends with your mom and I."

One of the nurses pushes the wheelchair forward as Jungkook extends a hand. Dad gives him a handshake and comments proudly. "Pleasure to meet you, Jungkook. Good grip you got there."

"Thank you."

Then he moves on to you. "Hi Y/n."

There are no words to describe how you feel, seeing him in this state. But one thing's for sure, you feel like crying. "Hi—"

All of a sudden he's clutching his head and closing his eyes, groaning in pain.

You take a step back, terrified as you turn to your dad who in return grabs your shoulders and gently drags the both of you out of the room.

End of Flashback

Seeing him like this. Healthy and smiling.

The past five years made you realize that despite his shortcomings and temper, he did truly to fix things between you. In his own weird, and annoying way.

What happened to him isn't something you'd wish on anyone, but maybe. Just maybe. It was the universe's way of saying 'let's give this friendship a go again, but this time, with the past casted away'.

"Well don't just stand there. Give her your present, kookie."

He's not even trying to hide his bashfulness, rubbing a hand behind his neck as he approaches you.

"Mom said you like roses." His crimson cheeks don't go unnoticed as he hands you the bouquet. "Congratulations, Y/n."
