We went up the stairs of the plane and took a seat. Ruby was first in and she took a seat by the window. There was a seat right in front of her, but I did not want to talk to her more than necessary.
Ophelia stepped into the plane right before me. She also took a seat by the window on a couch, a bit further in, on the other side of the plane. As far away from Ruby as possible, which I understand.
I, however, did not know where to take a seat. Not by Ruby, that much I did know. But should I sit by Ophelia or by myself? I'm not here to make friends but knowing the ins and outs of most of the girls is not something bad. It could be useful after all.
It is not that I actually want to win. It is just that I want to become an elite. If I do, I get to become a three, and while I am in the selection my parents get a lot of money, which helps.
I decided to sit in front of Ophelia, on a couch as well. As I sat down, I saw that she looked quite nervous. "First time on a plane?" I asked.
Her face turned to meet mine. "Yes! I have barely been outside of my town, so just being in the Whites is something new for me."
I smiled. "It is the same for me. We don't even own a car, so it would be hard to get outside our village. But I do like the Whites, with the snow and everything. Will be so weird to be in a warm place now as Angeles."
She nodded. "Exactly. But I don't like the cold, so it will be nice to have some warmth."
"I guess so." I looked out the window as the plane started moving.
It felt weird, it was moving so fast, and then I could feel as the plane suddenly were leaning and I felt pressure holding me against the coach.
After a few minutes, the pressure released and the plane leveled out.
A flight attendant came and introduced herself. She told us that there was a room behind us with separate beds, as the flight would take around six hours and we probably were exhausted from our day of travel. We also got some late dinner and dessert. The food was incredible and I loved it.
While I ate I talked some more with Ophelia and I got to know that she was, like me, the only child, but she had always wanted siblings. Her dad owned a pretty successful hotel and her mom was a real estate agent.
When I looked at the time and saw that we had been in the air for an hour, I decided to get some sleep. When we land the time will be 7 am (or 6 am in my timezone) so I really needed some sleep.
I went to the back room and I saw four boxes. One of them was closed so I assumed that Ruby already was asleep.
I took one in the back and sat down in a seat. As soon as I did, a screen in front of me started. Then I could see some buttons on the screen.
Close/Open door, call the attendant, movies, sleep, bed
I pressed the "Close door" button and my box closed. I then pressed "Bed" and my seat slowly laid back and I could see a duvet lying beside me. I took it and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning by someone knocking on my box. I pressed "Open door" and I could see Ophelia standing there.
"Good morning! There is breakfast serving now if you want some. We are landing in about an hour." She smiled.
I yawn and answered. "Thank you, Ophelia. I will be right there."
I sat up and looked out the window. The ground was no longer white, but green and yellow with a lot of mountains.
I walked back to my seat and sat down. The attendant gave me croissants, marmalade, fruits, orange juice and asked me if I wanted some tea or coffee.
I said "No, thank you." and she nodded and left. I sat and ate my breakfast while Ophelia talked about... well everything. How stoked she was and happy and... I think you get the point.
After about an hour, we landed.
Ruby was the first of the plane, greeting the press that was standing there, waiting on a glance of the selected.
I was second, and all I could hear was journalists screaming my name. I walked to one with a camera and mic.
"Hello, Liviana! How are you?" They asked while I smiled politely.
"I am wonderful, just a bit tired of course after all the traveling." The journalist nodded.
"Understandable. So while you were in the air, the story about you talking to that small child in the Whites have gone viral. How does it feel? And why did you do it?"
I looked at her confused. "Viral?" I shook my head and then answered. "I had no idea. I just wanted to say hi to her and thank her for being there for me. All the support I have been getting is amazing and I am so grateful for everything."
I hoped that the answer was good. I knew that the people's support was important in the selection and if I needed to be here I was going to play the game.
