Cold. That is all I felt when I awoke, and all I could see was darkness. I could hear the rising chains rattling against this container and the wall. I felt my way around the container to find it was a box. Slowly I felt my way into a corner and curled into a ball. 'My name' I thought, 'what is my name? Why can't I remember anything? Who are my parents? Do I have siblings? What kind of people lock someone in a box?' My thoughts were interrupted as the box came to a sudden halt and threw me across the room. I had found some boxes in my search earlier, so I hid under them in hopes that I wouldn't be seen. 'Bella' my mind screamed at me. 'My name is Bella' I thought. I repeated it over and over again until there was a sudden boom from above and the top of the box opened slowly, letting the light from above flood through the dimly lit box. A few seconds after the box had fully opened, I heard someone jump in and I could tell they were looking for something. I watched through the gaps in the smaller boxes as the boy who had jumped down continued to search the area. I couldn't see what he was looking for and I just hoped that I remained hidden. Through the gaps, I saw a small crowd of boys gathered around the opening and I suddenly realised that I had been holding my breath. I tried to release my breath quietly so I remained unfound, but unfortunately, I failed miserably.
The boy in the box walked over and moved the box above me slightly to the side. The gap was big enough for him to see the look of terror on my face but small enough that no one else could see me. "Nick, there's no greenie this month," the boy said. Something about his accent was familiar to me. Almost like I had heard it before.
"Everyone, back to work!" I heard a new voice say and as I tried to look at who the voice belonged to, I realised that the boy had moved the box back over me.
"Ok. Nick, I'm gonna unload the box. Alby, help me?"
"Whatever Newt." I assumed the voice belonged to Nick. Wait. Did he say Newt? Where have I heard that name before? I heard, and felt, someone else jumping down and although I couldn't see him, I could tell he was standing next to the boy who had been called Newt. I stayed as still and as silent as I could until the box was moved and I saw two boys staring at me as a hungry dog would stare at food. I studied each boy closely to determine whether or not they would try and hurt me.
I looked at the boy who had been called Newt. He had blonde hair that was slightly curled and dirty. It almost looked as if he had been playing in the mud. I looked closer and noticed he had brown eyes with specks of gold and he had light brown freckles dotted over his cheeks and nose. His light blue jeans were slightly ripped at the bottom and his dark orange vest looked as though he had worn it for months on end without washing or changing it. He was rather tall, he had a muscular but skinny build and his light skin was rather pale compared to the average person.
I looked at the boy beside him who I assumed was called Alby. He had dark skin and dark brown eyes. He had a rather muscular build and was definitely taller than Newt. He had similar clothes but had been ripped in many more places compared to Newts. His hair was down to his shoulders and tied in a loose ponytail. The look on his face was disturbing and I wanted to run away from him.
"Where am I?" I asked quietly but neither one replied. "Where am I?" I asked a little bit louder but when no one answered, I gave in to my need to run. I climbed out of the box and started running towards a large clump of trees as fast as I could. I could hear the boys from the box calling out to me and I noticed some other boys staring at me in a rather uncomfortable way. As I reached the trees I realised that if I went into them I would eventually be found. I also realised that wherever I was had for stone walls with a large opening in each one surrounding the area. I hoped that if I were to go beyond the walls, I wouldn't be followed for long. I faltered for only a second more before I started running again, only this time I knew where I was going. I was going to go beyond the walls.
