Ella headed out of biology class, relieved that school was over.
The day had been dreadful. She hadn't spoken to a single person, excluding the teachers, who only actually spoke to her in order to give her directions.
She felt as if she'd tripped and fallen into the pit of loneliness and teenage angst. Lunch break was by far the worst. Instead of sitting alone in the cafeteria, she'd decided to go read a book in the library. Even the nerdy book worms gave her death stares. At this point, she should have been ready to eat a horse, but she supposed that there was a reason depressed people normally stopped eating.
There were a lot of cute guys in many of her classes, but all Ella could think about was that mysterious boy with the unnaturally blue eyes, clear pale skin and jet-black hair, Ander. Why had he stared at her so deeply in that classroom if he'd planned to be bleak towards her for the rest of the day?
And why did he tell her to be safe?
That question definitely had its fair share of creepy levels.
Ella finally found her way to the exit door and thankfully did not need to summon the last of her strength to open the wretched thing that probably weighed more than a whale. People were rushing out through the door, all wanting to get out. Eventually, after what seemed like forever, Ella managed to exit the school building and make her way to the parking lot.
She searched for a red Dodge Dart.
There it was. Right next to a group of big bulky boys with nose piercings, tattoos, leather jackets and the whole shabam. Why on earth would her cute little red Dodge attract such malevolent presences?
And then she remembered the rusty yellow truck.
Why had she been so stupid! It would have been better to just be late for school than to get herself in this trouble.
Ella waited behind the cement wall that separated the entrance from the parking lot. Maybe they would leave soon. She waited for a fairly long time until she finally decided to take her chances. And for the second time that day, she took a very deep breath and sucked up her fear. She slowly stood up from her crouching position behind the wall and quickly made her way towards the red car, and the animalistic boys.
Everything seemed to be okay and they didn't appear to notice her approaching presence, until one of the boys facing her direction spotted her and whispered something to his friends. They all turned their muscly necks to face her. Ella stopped in her tracks, waiting for something to happen. They did nothing, so she resumed her fast skippy walk. She reached the front of her car and was about to unlock it when suddenly she felt a large cold hand grope her butt so hard she knew she'd have bruises. She spun around and instinctively pushed away the bulky intruder. He had a cigarette between his lips and three eyebrow piercings
"Awww look, lil girl's tryna fight back" he laughed loudly.
Ella was just about ready to throw up on his shoes from the sickening smells of cigarette smoke and bad breath.
"Leave me alone you animal!" She shouted angrily to the filthy figure looming over her.
He laughed again and grabbed her waist, pulling her into a painful embrace.
She pounded her fists against his chest and tried to push him away, but the boy was too strong. Well, if he even was a boy. Eventually she grew weak and stopped fighting back. She shut her eyes as tight as she could hoping he would lose interest.
Just as he was about to shove his dirty pierced tongue down her throat, Ella felt a sudden rush of cold air engulf her. Her body was no longer being suffocated by a bulky mass. She fell to the floor and lay still for a few seconds before opening her eyes. She saw the boy lying on the floor, blood rushing from his nose. Had she done this to him? She heard bodies hit the snow to her left and when she ripped her gaze towards the noise, what she saw now was horrific.
A pile of muscly bulky bodies lay before her. They were all unconscious and had bloody faces. When Ella looked for her rescuer, all she could see was a small dark figure disappear into the shadows.
"Wait! Who are you?" She screamed to the cold air where the figure had disappeared.
Before Ella could assess the horror and mystery of the situation, she realized how dark it was getting. So she picked up her car keys from the snow and unlocked the car. She got in and stormed home, her hands shaking, gripping tightly on the steering wheel.
Today was by far one of the creepiest days she had ever had. There were so many questions running through her mind.
Why did Ander tell her to be safe?
Who had saved her from that gang of boys?
How had one person managed to beat up a group of bulky men who were probably taking steroids and other things that were illegal?
Why had her rescuer left so quickly?
It was only then that she realized the herd of deer that were crossing the same road that she happened to be on.
