"May the Valkyries welcome you, and lead you through Odin's great battlefield. May they sing yer name with love and fury, so that we might hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla. And know that you've taken yer rightful place, at the table of kings." Gobber said sadly while handing Hiccup a bow.
"For a great man has fallen, a warrior, a chieftain, a father, a friend." He finished his voice wavering while finishing. Hiccup lit the arrow tip in a dying fire that was left from the battle before securing in on the bow. He pulled the string, took aim and let go. The arrow soared through the sky before hitting a ship. Not long after the gang, Valka and a former Dragon Hunter named Eret shot an arrow of their own. This made the small fire that had started on the ship even bigger. A real Viking funeral.
"I sorry, dad." Hiccup said to himself. They all lost some one important that day.
"I'm not the chief you wanted me to be, and I'm not the peacekeeper I thought I was... I-I Don't know..." He struggled, not finding the right words. Valka walked up to Hiccup, stroking his head lightly.
"You came early into this world. You were such a wee thing... Oh, so frail, so fragile. I feared you wouldn't make it." She looked at Hiccup with a soft expression on her face.
"But, your father, he never doubted." She stood in front of him putting both hands on his shoulder.
"He'd always said you'd become the strongest of them all. And he was right." She cupped his cheek. She slowly moved her hand putting some hair behind his ear.
"You have the heart of a chief, and the soul of a dragon. Only you can bring our worlds together." She stopped for a second thinking. Before she gained a confident smile.
"That is who you are, son." She finished before she stepped aside to give him some space. He stared a the burning ship for a few seconds and then spoke up.
"I- uhh, I was so afraid of becoming my dad. Mostly because I thought I never could. Ho-how do you become someone... that great, that brave, that... selfless? I guess, you can only... try." He took a deep breap and turned to look at the others.
"A chief protects his own... We're going back." He finished finally sounding confident.(No kidding castle on the hill just started playing on the radio. It does that all the time since the 3rd movie!)
"Uhh, with what?" Tuffnut said.
"He took all the dragons." His sister added.
"Not all of them." Hiccup answered refering to the baby dragons.
"Wait, before we go, I have to do something. She might even be able to help us." Valka said realizing something.
"And what would that be, mom?" Hiccup asked her. He was curious. He followed Valka who already had started to walk off. They had all followed her to a beach like area. Valka had not stood still for a second on carefully walked up to some familliar looking dragons who blended in with the sand around them.
"Wait, are those..."
"Sand Wraiths!" Hiccup said finishing Astrid's statement. The taking had gotten the attention of the dragons who turned around baring their teeth. Valka was able to calm them down by showing them that she was no threat and only there to help.
"Yes, indeed they are. Very friendly most of the time, so this behaviour is unusual. But if I am correct, one of them is hurt." She told them as she passed the dragons who stepped aside for her. Hiccup carefully looked at everthing that happned with confusion. But I thought they all left with the alpha? No way... could this be? And that's when he saw Sol. This confirmed his suspicion.
"Sol?!" He carefully walked past the dragons who stood around him. With the name being said some gasps were heard and said dragon looked at him. His eyes softened when he saw the gang.
"You know this dragon?" Valka asked her son who now sat crouched before the dragon.
"Yes, and I don't think he's alone. Can you please open your wings, Sol?" In response the dragon carefully opened his wings. His pained expression showing he must be hurt too. And there she was. She was unconscious and looked pretty well, except for the burnmark on her right arm. The leather wrap that was tied around it was now burnt and hung loose.
"I take it that she is one of your riders?" Valka questioned while Hiccup carefully removed her from the dragons grasp to let Fishlegs check her out since he has the most medical experience, next to Phoenix herself.
"Yes, we found her on an uninhabited island with her dragon. Her name is Phoenix, the dragon is called Sol." Hiccup answere as he helped Sol get up to check him out on any injuries.
"I think she'll want to tell the rest of the story herself." He said looking at his mother. He knew she must have seen what happened for her to know that some one was here. His suspicion was confirmed as Valka started talking.
"He got hit by one of the other Sand Wraiths, who were still in control at that time. He managed to snap them out of it before catching his rider and crashlanding right here. I've never seen anything like it." Valka told them bewildered thinking back to the event.
"So, Sol's Valor must have been in Drago's control, this whole time?" Astrid questioned herself and the others.
"It makes the most sence." Fishlegs said looking up at Astrid for a second. He thought for a second.
"Wasn't she supposed to be on her way back today?" He questioned the others.
"Yeah, why?" Astrid answered. Fishlegs suddenly grabbed the bag that was around Phoenix shoulder and opened it.
"Knew it. I heard Gothi had asked her to bring her some herbs, maybe I can make something for the burn." Fishlegs said looking around in the bag. Sol kept a close eye on his rider and the other Sand Wraiths. Just in case. Phoenix twitched her fingers and not long after they could hear a groan. Sol got to her as fast as he could. He was really sore but managed to get as close as he could. He crooned, carefully nudging her side.
"Hey..." She said softly as she tried to move her arm to pet Sol. She hissed in pain.
"Carefull, I think you might have sprained it." Fishlegs said while making something to put on her arm. She looked at in and saw the burn mark.
"Try the... comfrey leaf." Phoenix said with a hoarse voice while trying to sit up right. He hummed in acknowledgement and carefully added some to the mix. Phoenix looked around in confusion.
"What happened while I was out?". . .
Phoenix & Sol (HTTYD 2)
Sol might be a little bigger but I didn't have that much space left. Still no face for Phoenix cuz I just can't. Also, this is before she gets the burn mark.
Also this book is getting to it's end really fast, but don't worry, there will be a third. And who knows maybe I'll even make some one shots after that. But for now...
