Shanice POV

*

I woke up feeling like pure grade A shit. My head was killing me. I laid in bed debating if I felt like getting up. I didn't study for my test so whether I show up to class today or not I was going to fail no doubt about it. I thought about it a little and decided to get up. I'd rather not mope around and keep having the same thoughts run through my head. I know a gist of some of the material so if I scan over my notes quickly and refresh it I may not do so bad.

"Knock knock," Vickie, my roommate, knocked on my door before letting herself in. "Dee told me to give this to you." I rolled my eyes as she handed over a to-go box with a piece of paper taped on it. "So I'm guessing you two got into it again? I didn't even know you were here until I went out to take the trash and he was sitting there waiting."

"Mhmm," I said opening the letter and reading it.

Shani I'm really sorry about last night. Please unblock me so we can talk. I love you girl and good luck on your test.

"You can have it," I said passing the food to Vickie. I ripped up the note and threw it in the trash and proceeded to get ready. Why am I not surprised? I've went through this with Dee plenty of times before. Nothing ever changes.

"I saw the post," Vickie said. "I don't know why you put up with him. You're a beautiful smart girl Shani. And it's obvious Dee doesn't see that."

"I'm not in the mood to talk," I mumbled.

She sighed and stood up. "You have to talk to somebody Shani. All this stress you're under isn't good." She walked by and set the tray down. "He's a jerk but you do need to eat. It'll help you focus on the test today." She walked out of my room and went about her day.

Vickie is my roommate from Freshman year. Or one of them at least. She's the only friend I was able to make my entire college career mainly because she's one of the few who didn't want to sleep with Dee. Not that Dee didn't try before he found out she had a boyfriend.

She was the only person to come to me about Dee's infidelity and I was dumb as hell back then and didn't believe her. But of course she was right. I should've listened to her back then. Maybe I would've left his alone for good. Or maybe it wouldn't have made a difference considering he's obviously cheating now and I still have yet to fully break away from him.

My phone started ringing and I wearily looked at it. Dee was good for getting burner phones and calling me off of them in hopes that I would answer. But when I saw who it was I answered. "Hey," I smiled a little. "It's been a while."

"Shani," Mae cheered. "I miss you bestie!"

I chuckled and sat at the edge of my bed. "I miss you two crazy."

"Bitch I'm the crazy one!" Jada yelled making me laugh. Of course they have me on three-way. "Girl we haven't talked to you in like ten months."

"It's been two days Jada."

"Same shit."

I chuckled again. "So what's up?"

"Girl you are missing it," Mae said. "You will not believe what happened. So I'm sitting at home helping Cel and Chas with their homework and Tre comes bursting in looking mad as hell. I followed him to his office because you know I'm nosy as hell and found out his mother is back!"

"Are you serious?" I don't know much about Tre's relationship or past with his mother but what I do know isn't good. Apparently, she disappeared after Chasity was born and he hadn't seen her since.

"Yes! She was on drugs heavy and got clean. She now wants to be a mother to them. Which is fucked up because you know he just legally adopted them. Tre told her he didn't want her involved at all and she flipped out. Threatening to take them away because they were 'her' kids."
