Royal POV

*

I shook my head at what Shani just revealed. Of course things get more difficult. Nothing is ever easy when dealing with things like this. Not only is she pregnant but she has to be pregnant by one of the two worst possible people and to top it off she just has to have a weak heart to boot. "This got to be some sick joke," I muttered.

"What joke?" Shani asked. "And what's in the folder?"

"Don't worry about it," I said. "Not important right now."

"Considering you decided to deliver it personally it's got to be important. What is it?" Vickie asked.

I sighed. "Iight so, I had been getting this weird feeling ever since that dude popped back up in your life. Especially after Mae caught me up on a few things. So I took it upon myself to look into things."

"What things?"

"Grant. He's not who you think he is and I don't even know if I should be telling you this. Your heart's in bad shape and this is stressful stuff."

"Tell me Royal," she said.

I huffed and opened the folder up. "First of all, Grant isn't a student at your school. He took a semester off to earn some money. He came here because Sandra said she'd pay him to help her out with breaking you and Dee up."

"What?" they both looked shocked and confused.

"How the hell does Grant know Sandra?" Vickie asked.

"I think they're cousins or something like that. Childhood friends. Not really sure but they're close enough for her to know what happened to you two to use it as leverage to get him to go through with it. I hacked into his social media accounts and his phone records so I found the text and message threads between them. Everything you told him he'd report back to her so she'd use it as blackmail later or feed it to Dee somehow and plant bugs in his ear. That's how she or someone else always knew where y'all was. Why do you think he was never in one of those pictures?"

"I just thought they had a terrible shot," Vickie said.

"Nah more like so his girlfriend doesn't find out."

"Oh hell no!" Vickie hopped up fuming. "That bitch set my girl up and was playing the fucking field? I'm going to kick his scrawny ass! And I'm going to mop the floor with that yuck mouth ass hoe. Ooh I'm going to get kicked out of school after I'm done with them."

I watched Shani carefully since she's yet to say anything. "Shani? You straight?"

She scuffed and shook her head while looking out the window. "I don't even know what to say. I guess I kind of expected it. Was too good to be true. I'm just numb to this shit man for real. Of course as soon as I finally letting the past go this shit happens. And of course the good guy turns out to be just as bad as the bad guy. I guess I deserved it right? I played him, he play me. Karma."

"No the hell you didn't deserve that! Nobody deserves to go through that kind of pain. What you did was fucked up in the past and you've accepted that. But what he did was fucking worse. You didn't mean to hurt him the way you did. What he did was made to hurt you on purpose. It was sinister and sick as hell."

I  continued to watch Shani as she still played the nonchalant card. She's acting like nothing is bothering her but I know otherwise. And it's pissing me off because this isn't Shani. I don't know if she's bottling everything in because of what the doctor said but I have a feeling that's only partially why. This is no longer the Shanice that I met three years ago. That Shanice was powerful, strong. This Shanice, the girl laying in the hospital bed isn't even a shell of her former self. They did it. They BROKE her. Dee's infidelity, grants betrayal, the harassment, her recent medical revelation. Everything she went through has finally broken the camel's back.
