When I woke up for the second time that day, I felt for Severus next to me. Instead of the man, I found a note. Immediately, my grogginess left and a pit of disappointment was left in it's place.
(Y/N),
I will be back soon. Stay in the hotel room.
Severus
I put the note down, sitting up and clutching the sheets to me. Where the fuck had he gone? Just as I was about to get out of bed, the door opened. Severus came in, a grim look on his face.
"What's going on?" I asked tentatively. He barely glanced at me, instead going into the adjoining bathroom and closing the door. I slipped out of the covers, wrapped my cloak around my bare shoulders, and knocked on the door.
"Severus?" My voice was quiet and I wasn't quite sure he heard me, but he opened the door again. I looked up into his stern features, confused.
"This won't work." He said blandly, "Your aunt was right." With that, he shut the door in my face. I stood there, dumbstruck. Confusion, then despair, then anger flashed through me.
"What. The. Fuck!" I yelled, hitting the door, "You get me to confess my darkest secret, sleep with me, then tell me it won't work? What the hell is wrong with you?" He opened the door once more and grabbed me by my wrists. Shocked, I tried to pull back but he kept me in his grasp.
"There are things going on that you don't understand." He hissed, "And if you keep too close to me, you will wind up dead like that boy from the States." At the mention of Rowin, the fight left me. My head drooped in defeat. But as I did so, my eye caught something on his arm. Something I hadn't noticed before.
"Is that the dark mark?" I asked, pulling away. Severus let me go and I stumbled back. He yanked his sleeve down with a scowl. I backed away, reaching for my wand on the nightstand. Sensing my intentions, he tackled me on the bed, covering my mouth with his hand when I tried to scream.
"(Y/N), listen to me!" He whispered urgently, "I'm not a Death Eater. Well, I am...but I'm not." I stopped struggling to listen.
"Look," He said, slowly removing his hand from my mouth, "I can't tell you everything, but just know I'm not one of them. Ask Dumbledore. I can get him to speak with you if you want." When I didn't answer, he sighed and let me up. I scooted back on the bed, well away from him.
Severus sat down in the chair across from the bed, holding his head in his hands. I stared at him for a long while, neither one of us saying anything.
"You're a double agent." I finally said, piecing the clues together, "You're afraid the Dark Lord will find out and not only kill you, but me as well." Severus looked up at me dully and nodded before dropping his head back into his hands. We lapsed back into a weighed silence.
After what seemed like an eternity, I got up and went over to him. Getting on my knees, I took his hands in mine, making him look at me. I kissed him long and slow, trying to get my message across without words.
"You can't get rid of me that easily." I murmured against his lips.
"This could make life dangerous for you." He replied, pulling me onto his lap.
"I could do with a little more excitement in my life." I said teasingly, kissing him once more.
