That weekend, I met Severus back at the dingy little inn. He was sitting in the armchair when I came in, a book propped open on his knee. Giving him a quick kiss, I flopped down on the bed, exhausted from waiting the bar all day.
"Is Lucius Malfoy a death eater?" I asked, staring at the ceiling. Severus's eyes shot up from the book he was reading and he peered intently at me.
"Have you been sticking your nose into trouble?" He asked sternly.
Sitting back up, I shook my head, "No, he cornered me in the bookstore earlier this week." Severus looked concerned.
"What?" I asked, slightly alarmed.
"I need to get you out of here." He said, setting his book to the side and holding out a hand to me. Taking it, he pulled me to my feet.
"Out of here?" I was thoroughly confused now. What in the hell was he talking about?
"The Dark Lord ordered a hit for tomorrow night, but I never found out who." Severus said, wrapping me in his arms. I pushed back, trying to get a good look at his face.
"The Dark Lord wants me dead?!" I yelled, shocked. Severus held me tightly against his chest, silent to my panic.
"(Y/N), listen," He explained calmly, "I just need to get you away for a while until this is settled. Once the Dark Lord is dead, I will personally come and get you." I relaxed a bit.
"I have a cousin in Scotland I can stay with for a bit." I offered, a pit of dread knotting in my stomach. I didn't want to leave Severus. I didn't want to leave the Three Broomsticks and Aunt Rosmerta. I didn't want to leave this life behind, even if it was just for a little while.
Hugging me close to him, Severus said, "I'll get you a train ticket in the morning. It won't be forever, I promise."
It might not be forever, but it sure as hell felt like it.
