Peeled Prawns

Sehun invited me to Chanyeol's house for a huge gathering night with the rest of the boys. The fact that the whole group is going to be there is an advent in itself due to the boys' packed personal schedules.

Sehun & I were the last ones to arrive, and while I chastised Sehun about it, he sassily argued that we're only arriving "stylishly late". Chanyeol & opened the door for us before we could get to the doorbell. With his child-like demeanor & irresistable dimple, he invited us in.

I greeted them bashfully, feeling slightly insecure that I'm an outsider intruding their special bonding time. "Sorry for intruding, guys." I bowed my head humbly

"Sehun's family is our family, you're welcomed to join us anytime." Suho chuckled & gave me a fatherly look.

Baekhyun joked light-heartedly: "It's great that you're here, or we'll be seeing the maknae looking like a lost puppy the whole time."

I arched my eyebrow at Sehun, who always kept his cool & stoic appearance while the said person blushed, scratching his head in embarrassment.

After the usual rigmarole of deciding what to eat, the orders were placed for takeouts and the boys finally settled down in front of Chanyeol's huge TV screen. Chanyeol somehow managed to convince all of us to binge-watch his latest drama while the boys made sarcastic comments & blatant innuendos at his rookie acting.

Chanyeol didn't seem to mind as he basked in the attention (be it good or bad) of the boys. I guess that's what Kyungsoo's piping hot chicken soup does to you, as it rendered most of us speechless with the rich chicken essence. For a moment, only the slurping sound of soup was heard in the vast living room.

The takeouts finally arrived, and my gaze lingered at the glistening butter prawns. The one thing that's stopping me from gobbling it all up was the ordeal of peeling the prawns & getting my hands dirty. I shuddered at that thought and focused instead on the sweet & sour chicken, jajangmyeon & bibimbap.

Returning my attention to my bowl after a long debate with Jongin about whether or not he looks like a bear, I saw 3 freshly preeled prawns in it. I turned to look at Sehun, who continued to peel another prawn non-cholantly as he stared at the TV screen in front of him.

He noticed my prolonged stare & glanced at me: "Mwo? Eat up before I do." He gestured at the prawns in my bowl with his eyes.

I continued to stare dumbly at him as I thought about something from last week...

I was dining in with a few of my close friends at a seafood restaurant, and as we were peeling our prawns with the enthusiasm of a schoolteacher forced to teach on the weekends, my friend lamented: "You know what's best? Having a boyfriend who is willing to do this for you..."

She ended with a dramatic sigh & an eyeroll at the sight of her oily hands. My other friend winced as a cracked prawn shell flew up from too much force and almost took her eye out: "Oh, you tell me....."

I stared at the 2 of them & blinked innocently: "Wae?"

They both stared at me like I grew a third head, and one of them cried out: "Because it proves how much he loves & pampers you! Not everyone is happy to get their hands dirty, much less give up their hard work for someone else!"

Sehun waved his oily hands in front of my face: "Are you okay?" I nodded & broke into the stupidest grin, still happily basking in the silent declaration of unconditional love from Sehun.

"Thanks for peeling the prawns for me, Sehunnie." I grinned goofily while pecking him on the cheek.

Sehun stuck his tongue out at me: "What do you mean? I do this for my hyungs all the time." As if to prove his point, he placed a freshly peeled prawn into Jongdae's bowl.

Jongdae's eyes bugged out as he announced loudly: "Wah, guys! This is the 1st time Sehun has ever done this for me!" Sehun gave his hyung the dirtiest look he could muster for foiling his lie.

Chanyeol averted his attention to Sehun's filthy hands, then at my bowl full of peeled prawns: "OHHHHHH, uri maknae is finally peeling prawns without a word of complain & for someone other than himself!"

The rest of the boys jeered & teased the golden maknae, who looked like he wanted to bury himself 10 feet underground. I twisted his ear affectionately: "There's nothing wrong with admitting your whipped for me, Sehun-ah...."

Sehun stuffed another prawn into my mouth, his way of shutting my up. For once, I'm not complaining.
