―flashback―
THERE WAS A boy standing at the doorway, his back to Rosalind, tufts of his blond hair sticking up in different directions. It was pouring heavily outside, the raindrops splattering noisily onto the dirty ground. Rosalind watched as Peeta, her youngest brother, walked out of the house and threw a loaf of bread to someone outside.
Rosalind crept closer to the doorway and peeked out, and she spotted a girl huddled under a large tree a few meteres away from her house, her small frail body shivering in the rainy weather. Her bones stuck out painfully, a sure sign that she had been starving for quite a while. The girl's eyes widened as the loaf of bread rolled to a stop at her feet, and her grey eyes seemed to bulge out of their sockets as they took in the sight of the food.
Peeta turned around and jumped when he realized Rosalind had seen the whole thing. She beckoned him to come inside and he complied reluctantly, frowning.
"Look, please don't tell Ma―" he began.
"I wasn't planning to." She cut him off. "What do you take me for, a snitch?"
Peeta shrugged.
"Why did you do it anyway?"
His blue eyes seemed to darken. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Peeta, I saw the whole thing. And I already told you, I'm not gonna tell Ma. Okay?"
When he didn't respond, Rosalind said, "You like her, don't you?"
His head shot up, and his eyes stared at her in fright, widening to the size of plates. "H-How do you know that? Is it that obvious?"
"Well, Percy told me he noticed that you kept staring at a particular girl in school. And since you so willingly tossed that bread to her just now even though Ma could have caught you and beat you, I figured that was the girl he was talking about."
Peeta hung his head ever so slightly, a subtle blush rising up in his cheeks. "Yea-Yeah. I... I like her. I love her voice."
"Do you even know her name?"
Peeta opened his mouth and hesitated for just a second.
"Katniss. It's Katniss Everdeen." Rosalind said, with just the hint of a smile on her face.
Peeta opened his mouth again, but before he could say anything else, the memory distorted and he and the kitchen vanished, and a new scene whirled into view.
Rosalind found herself walking through a forest, her boots tromping through quietly. A girl walked in front of her, her dark, messy hair braided down one side, hand clutching a bow. A tall, muscular boy walked beside her, his hair cropped short.
