Part 17
Christine was panicky. Luke has been silent this whole week except that email confirming the bachelor house to proceed. She knows there's something underneath that silence.
Then she remembered the house. She still felt those small needles of truth that puncturing her heart. The land was a gift from Luke when they're still married. He surprised her with the certificate of land transfer that stating they already owned the land. Christine was excited that she had a lot of revisions made at the internal wall partitions. There were times that she thought of having three kids, then change it to four so she readjusted it over and over again.
When they inked the deal of separation, she never asked of anything else so the house was automatically claimed by her ex husband
Then she remembered again that scandal that rocked her professional work. She was out of her first job in no time because of that. It's not Crown development, her father's company. Those jokes when she's younger about a cleaner on the first day then a president of the company the next day because she's the heir to her father's throne stuck on her that's why she never thought on going to her father's company. She wanted to have a name for herself and when that scandal leaked, she thought she will never had that opportunity.
Luke was standing in front of a two storey simple house with attic and an additional garage below it. It's mostly painted white but he can see some hues of blue at the window. It's a Victorian type with ten flight of stairs as a porch. The bay window boasted an inticate glass designed window. It's screamed class in simplicity, just like its owner
Christine always follows routine. That's how organize she is. He took that knowledge to his advantage and followed her unknowing. But then at first, it was hard following her as she doesn't use her car most of the time. Last Monday, he didn't seen her walking out of Linton's. He uses Liam to extract useful information on the receptionist and found out that she hitched with that too good to be true work partner of hers as they went to a client meeting somewhere else. It was late lunch meeting she informed Liam but he sensed an afternoon delight on that.
Tuesday morning he thought of going to Charlie's school to follow him instead but found out that it's security detail was stricter
He came back watching Christine on Wednesday but the girl never walked in the office. Her boss seems exposing her to various male species because Liam informed him of client proposals and site meetings Christine was sent into instead of the boss himself. Mark really flaunted Christine to his client, he thought
All his absences in his office became fruitful when it was Thursday that Luke saw Christine walked out of the office and rode on a compact SUV. It was grey like her eyes. The girl brought him to this house at City Lights in the heart of Brinson City. Yet he need to confirm it. It's not Mark's house as he sent someone to track the guy thinking he live with Christine, something he can't imagine at first
Friday morning, the girl came out of it at seven in the morning with Charlie tugging her hand. She looked regal at that black and white ensemble she had. She always wore black dress and she never changed that taste. She took Charlie at school and went to her office. Now, he's back at that house when he followed Christine again as she's out of the office at five sharp.
"What are you waiting for? Buzzed in!" Liam whispered at his side.
He doesn't have the courage to punch that door bell yet, "Why are you here anyways?"
Liam punched in the buttons to his surprise, "that's why I'm here," he answered grinning
He instinctively dragged his brother away from the door to leave when the door opened. A middle aged woman answered. The same middle aged woman he saw almost three weeks ago. The old lady frowned at him, she might remember him that day
"You are the guy from the school?" the old lady asked. Confirm
"Ahm, yes. Is Ms. Thomas around?", Luke asked
"May I know who's asking for her?" the lady asked politely
"I'm a friend from her work, you can tell her I'm Mr. Roberts," he replied politely too
The old lady closed the door after explaining to him that it's for safety reasons. Good move he thought, at least he knew that Charlie is in good hands
The door opened in an instant and there she was, Christine, eyes enlarged at the sight of him
"What are you doing here?" she asked hushly as she closed the door behind her. She had no plans on inviting him in then
He grinned at Christine's unguarded look. She was scrubbed out of simple make up she wore. Cheeks pink and her eyes were noticeably sleepy. She still smelled of that same lavender soap she used.
"I'm here to see my son, Charlie"
She looked behind her as if she wants to know if there's someone near the door, her slender neck and collarbone exposed in her tank top inviting him. She faced him and talked in a low voice, "You don't have a son here Luke"
"Tin, can we talk about it properly? For old time sake," Liam begged
"Don't you dare begged Liam, I have right with the child," Luke commanded
Christine crossed her arms and chin lifted in defiance, "You can't force me here. It's my property"
He chuckled as he stand straight to intimidate the woman, "Either here or in courthouse Christine. I tell you, this will be messy for your part."
Christine's eyes grew at his threat, "Don't you dare Mr. Roberts. I know.."
He grabbed one of Christine's arm, cutting whatever she's planning to say, "Don't you dare me Christine, you know what can I do to you and your budding company"
Then and there a powerful hand grabbed his left shoulder from behind and a right punch towards his temple followed
"What do you think you're doing with my sister!" a guy shouted.
Carl the ogre
Carl grabbed his neck and tried slamming him at one of the side of the terrace but his hand stopped it from happening just in time his face was an inch of it concreted place. Liam bolted to help him pushing Carl to the floor. He heard Christine shouted in panic at that sight
Carl stand instantly and punched Liam but he jumped on that ogre from behind and they fell at the porch's step in the process. Christine's brother is way bigger and knew how to connect punches. Luke never that thankful enough that Liam was with him as the brawled continued at the side of the street. Few people who walked at the street stopped to look and some talking at their phone
Liam took Carl's two hands from behind the moment he stand and Luke took that opportunity to connect his fist to Carl's face. Carl overwhelmed Liam and elbowed his ribs sending his brother on the floor. His brother writhe in pain. Stunned at that, Luke didn't saw that another punch came in his face. But he counter that attack instantly with his right fist but connected the tall guy's left shoulder instead. The taller guy winced unexpectedly so he saw that opportunity to pushed him slamming Carl's head to a side mirror of a SUV that parked at the side of their house
