The other students clapped as I walked to the front of the classroom. "Congratulations Eli. I, Professor Christian Spruce, now present you with your Trainer License. And as a gift from me, I give you 5 pokeballs." The prof. told me as I shook his hand. I finally did it. My trainer's license had a picture of me, a very flattering one I must say, on the top left corner, with my name, birthday, and something stating that I was an official pokemon trainer, printed on it. This was my ticket to success.
The professor repeated the same thing to every other kid in the room, and after he finished, we all hung around showing off our licenses to each other. Gavin had a light blue one, Lynette had a bright green and mine was a dark red. The three of us talked for a while, discussing what we planned to do now. "Gavin and I are traveling together. I think I'm gonna take on the pokemon league with him. And I guess against him too." I eagerly told Lynette.
"Yeah, but we all know who's gonna become champion though." Gavin teased, "Anyways, didn't you say you wanted to be a pokemon coordinator, Lynette?"
"Yup!" She started, "I'll be traveling too, to different contest halls around the region. My dad finally agreed to letting me go by myself, so I'll be leaving as soon as possible!"
A crazy thought struck me. "Hey Gavin," I interrupted, "I need to ask you something. In private." I glanced over to Lynette giving me a strange look.
"Um, okay." We walked a few yards away and turned our backs to Lynette. "What?"
"I think we should ask Lynette to come with us." I whispered, "That way, her dad won't be worried about her traveling alone."
Gavin gave me an odd smile. "Suuure." He answered sarcastically, "That's why you want her to come with us. So her dad won't be worried."
"What? It's true." I stated, "Seriously though, can we ask?"
Gavin laughed and patted me on the back, "Haha, of course, man." We turned an walked back to Lynette.
"Hey, Lynette." I said to her.
"Hi..." She replied.
"So, Gavin and I were wondering." Gavin obnoxiously coughed as I said that. I glared at him. "If you wanted to travel with us. Then you wouldn't be alone, you're dad wouldn't worry, and we'd have a lot of fun." I said that a little too fast. I speak quickly when I'm nervous. Uh, not that I'm nervous about asking her or anything. Just that, um, she might think I'm weird or something.
Without having to think, she agreed, "I'd love to!" I felt like a weight was lifted off my chest.
"Awesome!" I grinned, "We were planning on leaving Monday morning. Is that good for you?"
"That's perfect!" She smiled back.

3 Days Later
Monday morning, we all met in front of the pokemon lab before we started off. Our parents gathered around to say goodbye. As my mom pulled me into a hug, she whispered in my ear, "Make you dad proud, sweetie." When she released I saw tears in her eyes. Happy tears. "I always thought this day would come sooner, but now that it has, I can't wait to see what you accomplish."
"Thanks mom." I smiled. Turning around, I saw Gavin and Lynette waiting for me.
"Come on Eli," Lynette told me while motioning with her hand, "My dad has something he wants to give us." The two turned and walked inside. I followed.
Professor Spruce's office was pretty impressive. Mounted around the room were tons of different science awards, a huge mahogany wood desk, and on his back wall was a family portrait of Lynette's family from when she was a baby. Her mom looked very similar to what Lynette looks like now. I see where she gets her good looks from. Uh... Not that I pay attention to her looks or anything. I mean, uh, just saying. What really caught my attention though was that a boy about 10 years older was in the photo. Lynette had never mentioned him before, but then again nobody ever me told about Lynette before training class started. I'd ask her later.
