Harry had made two promises to Ginny during his sixth year at Hogwarts. He had promised that he would never stop loving her as long as he lived, and he had promised that he would never leave her. Now, on a rainy afternoon in mid-June, he was outside kissing another girl. That girl was Pansy Parkinson. Harry didn't really have feelings for Ginny anymore, and he only made his promises because he wanted her to be happy.

"Have either of you seen Harry?" Ginny asked Ron and Hermione, who exchanged looks of uncertainty. "What?" Ginny asked them. "Ginny, if I were you, I'd just go outside," Ron told her vaguely. "Why?" She asked in response. Ron grimaced slightly. "Just do it, Ginny. You need to see it for yourself," he said. Ginny, realizing that Ron wasn't going to give her any more information, swiftly swung her bag over her right shoulder and left the common room.

Once Ginny was outside, she began calling Harry's name, receiving no response from him. She looked almost everywhere on the grounds, unable to find him. She had thought that she'd seen him on the slope leading to Hagrid's hut, kissing another girl, but she dismissed it as a hallucination. As she surveyed the grounds one last time before heading back in, she saw Harry, still kissing the same girl as she had thought she'd seen him with earlier. She ran close enough to him to see who he was kissing, and her bag slipped off of her shoulder as she realized that it was Pansy Parkinson. The bag landed with a wet thud, causing Harry and Pansy to separate. Tears began to well up in Ginny's eyes as Harry looked at her. "Ginny, I -." He began, but Ginny was already running back to the castle, putting her bag back on her shoulder as she went.

Ginny went all the way to her dormitory before stopping. She dropped her bag beside her bed before effectively face planting onto her bed and starting to sob. Hermione entered the dormitory after a few minutes and sat down on her bed, facing Ginny. "Look, I'm sorry about Harry. I honestly wasn't expecting this either. Harry always told me that he loved you and only you," she said. "Honestly, with the way that he talked about you, it made me jealous, because I've had a crush on him since he saved me from the mountain troll in first year," she continued. Ginny looked at her and shrugged. "Two of my brothers have crushes on other girls than they say they do. George has a crush on someone called Vanessa Faith Gryffindor, and Ron's got a crush on another girl in your year, Vanessa's younger sister, Scarletta," Ginny told Hermione. "Do you have someone else on your mind? Besides Harry, I mean," Hermione asked Ginny. "N-no," said Ginny with uncertainty. "What about you, Hermione?" She asked. "Well, there is someone. I can't tell you though, you'd hate me for it," Hermione replied.

Ginny hadn't been entirely truthful when she had told Hermione that she didn't have anyone else on her mind. The truth was, she was thinking about Draco Malfoy. She didn't want anybody to know though, because if she did, no one would want to be around her again, except for possibly Draco. She had no idea that Hermione was thinking about the same person. Things couldn't possibly get any worse for either of them, they thought. They couldn't have been more wrong.
