Two weeks had passed without further incident, and things were just starting to return to being somewhat normal. Then, dark secrets began to emerge. Secrets that slowly began to erode the friendship of the Golden Trio. First, Ginny and Hermione learned that everything that Ron had blamed Draco for were things that he had done. He had been the true bully the entire time. Hermione still stayed with him, even knowing this new fact. On the bright side, Ginny and Harry were back to speaking to each other. Ginny told Harry that she and Hermione had discovered that Ron was talking about himself when he told everyone what Draco had done. Then came the reports that Ron had abused Ginny. Still, Hermione stayed with him. Then came the worst secret of all of them.
Hermione hadn't seen Ron all day. At first, she just thought that he was preoccupied with his schoolwork, but she became extremely worried when he didn't even show up for lunch. She was on her way to the common room after the lessons of the day when she ran into someone. She looked up and saw that she had accidentally ran into Ron. "Oh, Ron! Thank goodness I -," her voice caught in her throat. Ron was kissing Scarletta. She attempted to ignore it until she got to the common room, but failed halfway between it and Ron. Not wanting anyone to see her, Hermione quickly hid in a corner of the corridor, broke down, and cried. Ginny, who was going up to the common room as well, stopped when she heard someone crying.
"Hello?" Ginny asked. Hermione briefly stopped crying to answer Ginny. "G-Ginny? Is th-that you?" She said before continuing to cry. "Hermione?" Ginny asked. She got no answer, so she began searching the corridor for her best friend. She found her hiding in a corner, crying like a baby. Ginny didn't even want to know why Hermione was so upset, but she had a feeling that it had something to do with her brother. She went over to Hermione and gave her a comforting hug and led her back to the dormitory. "Hermione, what happened?" She asked when Hermione had calmed down. "R-Ron was kissing Scarletta," Hermione said simply, before breaking down and crying again. "Oh God, I'm so sorry Hermione! I didn't mean to make you cry again!" Ginny said frantically. Something suddenly came to the forefront of Ginny's mind. What if Hermione goes to Draco now? I need to tell him that Hermione loves him. I also need to tell him that I love him, and that I'm better for him than Hermione is. This could end badly.
Early the next morning, Ginny left Gryffindor Tower and headed for the dungeons. On her way to the Slytherin common room, she almost ran into the very person she was looking for, Draco Malfoy. "Hey Draco," she said. "Why are you talking to me, Weaslette?" Draco asked her coldly. "Because I've got no one left other than Harry, and I still don't trust him," Ginny told him. "Yes, that's me as well," Draco said in a much kinder tone. "I just want you to know that Hermione's in love with you," Ginny said. Draco's mouth fell open in surprise. "That's not everything. I'm in love with you too, and I just came to tell you that if I was you, I'd choose me over Hermione," she said. "I don't even need a contest for who I love most between Hermione and you," said Draco, smiling at Ginny. "So? Who do you pick?" She asked in reply. "How's this for an answer?" Draco asked rhetorically. "Ginny, will you go on a date with me?" He asked her. "Yes, I'd love to," she replied happily. "What should I tell Hermione if she comes and tells me she loves me?" Draco asked, "Just tell her that you're already going out with someone," Ginny told him.
Later that day, during lunch, Hermione went over to the Slytherin table to talk to Draco. She cleared her throat to get his attention before beginning. "Can I talk to you?" She asked him. "Sure," Draco replied. They exited the hall and went into a broom cupboard off to the side of the hall. "Um, why are we in a broom cupboard?" Draco asked her. Hermione ignored his question. "I'm in love with you, Draco," she said softly. Before he had an opportunity to say something else, she leaned in and kissed him. He pushed her away from him without any trouble. "So that's why we were in a broom cupboard?" He asked harshly. Without waiting for an answer, he stormed out of the broom cupboard. Ginny saw the furious look on his face, and decided to see what was wrong. "Draco, what's wrong?" She asked him, "It's nothing," he replied shortly. "Draco, it isn't nothing, I can see it in your eyes. You just need to tell me what's bothering you," she said in response. "I can't. It would ruin our relationship before we even went out on our first date," Draco replied. "Draco, trust me, nothing will ever ruin our relationship. I promise you that," Ginny replied. "Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you. Hermione kissed me. There, I said it," he said. Ginny stared at him in shock, but quickly smiled at Draco. "What, you're not angry?" Draco asked in confusion, "Not at you, no. I'm furious with Hermione for kissing my boyfriend," she said. She decided to look for Hermione and give her a piece of her mind.
