"Can we talk?" Michael whispers.

The room is dark. We were lying on opposite sides of the bed, yet facing each other. After I came back with Chinese, we ate silently and then just quietly played around on our phones.

Now, at midnight, we were silently laying beside each other in the dense darkness. The only sound was our breathing and the air conditioning. That is until Michael spoke up.

"Sure," I finally answer.

"I don't like fighting with you."

"Me either."

"I just don't like seeing you with other guys," he quietly admits.

"Why?" I question, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Because..."

"Michael."

"Because you're mine. I don't want some rich, Hollywood actor stealing you away from me," he replies.

"No one will steal me from you, Mikey." I frown, my eyes prickling. "No one."

"I'm sorry for being so overprotective."

"Don't mention it."

"You're not my girlfriend. I don't have a say in who you date. It just took me by surprise is all," Michael says.

"True," I reply. "Although, I undersand."

"Just promise me you won't let this guy hurt you."

"I won't."

"He's more mature than you; a lot older and with more experience. I just don't want him to take advantage of you."

"He won't, Michael. Stop worrying," I promise him.

"Don't have sex with-"

"Michael!" I groan.

"I just don't want you to regret any decisions you make."

"I don't regret being friends with you, so I doubt I'll regret this," I joke.

"I love you, B. You're my best friend and I really don't want to lose you."

My stomach churns at the three words and eight letters. So little a phrase, but so big a meaning.

"I love you, too, Michael," I reply, before drifting to a dreamless sleep.

This is a different outcome than what I had planned, but I think I like this one better. You'd probably hate me if you knew what I had planned and didn't go with it!
