Chapter Twenty-Five
Brittany Dawson
"He's going to hate this," Becca ticks, shaking her head disapprovingly.
"What? Why?" I frown, looking down at the red evening gown I had tried on.
"You look totally hot, don't get me wrong."
"Then what's the problem?" I question.
"Just that," she says, "you look so hot."
"Okay?" I reply.
"Every man there is going to eat you up and I have a feeling that Michael will have a problem with it," she states.
I shrug. "That's his problem. Not mine."
"How about my dress, though?" she then asks.
"Hot," I confirm.
"Okay, let's pay for these and get the hell out of here so you can break up with that poor boy."
"Stop," I warn her.
"What?" She shrugs. "He's a nice guy. I just don't want you to break his heart."
"I won't."
"I think you already have."

"You changed your hair," Evan points out.
"Yeah." I shrug. "I thought the black to red ombre would look cool."
"I missed you."
He wraps his arms around me, burying his face into my neck. I awkwardly stand with my arms at my side, but finally give in and pat his back. He eventually pulls away, then drags me to his tacky looking couch.
"How long are you in town for?" Evan asks.
"Two days," I reply.
"Stay the night after the show?" he ponders, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pulling me into him.
I carefully sit up, scooting down the couch a little bit. Evan follows my lead, taking my hand and sitting close to me.
"You okay, babe?"
"Evan, I have to talk to you about something," I sigh.
"Oh, no." He frowns. "You heard?"
"What?" I look at him.
"It was a mistake, I promise."
"Evan, what are you talking about?"
His eyes widen. "What were you talking about?"
"No, what were you talking about?" I interrogate.
"Emma came onto me and I just-"
"Are you fucking serious?" I snap, standing up and distancing myself from him.
"It didn't mean anything, Brittany," Evan assures.
I roll my eyes. "Oh, I've heard that one before." And, okay, I haven't, but still.
"Don't act so innocent with me," he suddenly turns.
"What are you talking about?" I ask for what seemed like the hundredth time tonight.
"I know that you and Michael have been getting close again," he accuses.
"And?" I challenge.
"While we're confessing shit, why don't you just come clean?"
"Fine." I narrow my eyes at him. "We made out a few times."
Evan rolls his eyes at my answer. "So it appears we both cheated."
"Yeah." I frown, suddenly realizing the situation I was in. "Look, we're both shitty people. That's the moral of the story. Let's just end this so that nothing like this happens again."
"What? I still... I mean, I really like you," he claims.
"Do you, Evan?" I ask. "Because I have to let you know that Michael and I... We..."
"I know," he sighs. "I could tell in your eyes."
I give him a small smile. "I really did like you, you know. You weren't a rebound or anything."
"I told you that if you had feelings for this guy then you should be with him, not me," Evan says.
I take a seat on the sofa across from him. "I know."
"Do you love him?"
I look up to meet his sad eyes. "What?"
"Michael," he repeats, "do you love him?"
I look back down, a blush forming on my cheeks. "Yeah," I say. "I think I do."
