The final pits revealed the exit: the end of the game. Melvin, with all the might of a god swiftly hopped to each plane; the alien arrived to the floor without fail. Sweat dripped down Zak's forehead. The room was dead quiet.
It was only in that instant the Zak came up with a plan. Unnoticed, Zak's foot pushed the base of the rolling chair promptly. It was enough to cause Melvin's hand to slip; the terror marked his face as the alien with skates fell through the level, out to the emptiness of space.
Melvin's jaw quivered and he yelled in anguish, "That's not fair! It wasn't my fault that it fell!"
None of the crowd believed him, without hesitance, they cheered around Zak and mocked Melvin's mistake. Zak was once again back on the throne.
The bell rang, computer class was over. Their lazy teacher didn't wish the students goodbye and he was only solaced that the school day was over. Melvin grabbed his bag and lunchbox and peered over at Alex, who was quietly packing up. The look on his face clearly read as "defeated" and "sad".
Melvin paced towards him, "Hey man, we almost got 'em, we still got next time," Melvin smiled faintly. Alex turned his place away from him,
"Yeah, I guess.."
"What's wrong?" said Melvin.
"I'm...just mad that I couldn't beat him. I've been training all school year to defeat him and I still lost," Alex rubbed a tear off his cheek, his voice barely clear.
"Hey, it's okay," Melvin patted Alex's shoulder, "We still got all of Spring Break to practice, dude!"
Alex was calm for a moment, then he scowled, "You know I don't have a computer."
"But I do. You could come over and we could practice! My mom won't mind!" Melvin grinned.
"R...Really?" Alex looked up at his friend.
"Yeah, of course."
Melvin and Alex continued on their way to the bus lane, Melvin shared the story of his challenge and eventual downfall. Alex started becoming more optimistic about the high chances of his future success.
"Dude, That's epic," Alex smiled.
"Yeah, I would've totally beaten him but the game messed me up," Melvin mentioned, unknowing that his mistake was enforced by Zak.
Melvin broke left, "Well, that's my bus. I'll see you tomorrow I guess," Melvin walked to bus 28 begrudgingly, as he didn't want to leave his best friend. Alex always made him so calm. Alex himself walked to his bus, bus 4, and dreamt of his visit at Melvin's.
