Venice guy

Chapter 2

Hailey and I are eating lunch outside the football field because the guys are playing some soccer with some people from the football team.

"So there's this new guy at work" I tell Hailey. "Wait what?" She raises her eyebrows at me, "since when?" she asks.

Hailey always wants to know everything about new (cute) guys but we only have 15 minutes left before class, my hands are frozen and the boys don't look like they're about to finish their game anytime soon so instead of telling her now I say, "I'll tell you if we're getting some coffee because my hands are seriously frozen."

Hailey rolls her eyes at me, probably because I didn't bring gloves even though it's like 40 degrees outside and I'm always cold but she doesn't say no cause I can tell she's cold too.

I'm waiting in front of Hailey's locker while she's getting her books out. I'm holding my coffee in both hands and they're finally starting to warm up again.

"So his name is Alex, right?" Hailey asks me, "and his sister's named Ella?"

I nod and we start walking again.

I told Hailey everything I know about Alex, which isn't much by the way but still.

The only things I know about him are that his family is new in town, he's 17, he plays basketball just like the guys, he has a sister named Ella and she's 16 which is our age.

He and his sister are coming to Venice high tomorrow so that'll be real fun because I guess I forgot to mention Alex is like the biggest asshole I've ever met.

You would probably think I'm overreacting because I only know this guy for a day now but he really is an asshole and I don't understand why they hired him at the Rose because I was doing fine on my own.

Last week Lilly, the store manager, already told me that they had hired someone and that I was going to work with him.

Honestly I didn't care much when she told me, I mean I'm not that bad at socializing and I actually thought it could be fun to work with someone my age.

The only thing Lilly hadn't told me was that the guy I had to work with was a fricking jerk.

When I walked in at work yesterday Alex was already there. He looked at me and then at Lilly again with raised eyebrows.

I was just about to introduce myself when he asked Lilly "Is she always late?" he looked at me again, but now his face looked as if he thought by himself 'my god do I really have to work with her.'

I looked back at him "Uhm no I'm not always late and my name is Ellyn by the way if you were wondering."

He had this grin on his face that pissed me of even more and I think that was exactly what he wanted because now I could see the laughter in his eyes.

"Alright then" Lilly said as she clapped her hands "Elynn could you show Alex to the kitchen please, I need to check up on some things in the back first."

I looked at Lilly and I knew she did this to annoy me, she didn't need to check up on anything in the back.

"Oh c'mon Lilly, are you kidding me?" Lilly laughed as she walked away and I turned back to Alex, he was still looking at me but now with a different expression on his face which I couldn't quite figure out.

"So this is how you use the oven, it's kind of old and rusty but you'll have to work with it."

I looked up at Alex and he wasn't even paying attention, he was just tapping his fingers on the side of the kitchen counter.

Now he looked up at me too, "Uhm could you like maybe not stare at me like that, it makes me uncomfortable."

Wait what?! Was he kidding, I made him uncomfortable? Everything he had said to me until now had been offensive in one way or another and I made him uncomfortable?

"Hey, you don't have to give me such an angry look, I was just messing with you."

What was wrong with this guy, at first he was constantly making mean comments about me and now suddenly he was just kidding?

"Oh." I tried to look less angry as I said "okay than let's get to work, I think I hear the customers coming in already."

I was just about to walk out of the kitchen when Alex said "Oh before I forget me and my sister are going to Venice high next week, Lilly told me you go there too."

I heaved a sigh an I think he heard because right before the door closed behind me I heard him say in the most sarcastic voice ever "well at least I already have one friend."

Great so not only will I have to work with this asshole he's also coming to my school.
