It's almost 1 a.m. and I walk up the stairs to my room as quiet as I can because I don't want to wake up my mom. I don't want to wake her up because I know she has to work early on Tuesday morning and also because I actually need to be home at 11:00 during the week. Last time I was home this late I wasn't allowed to go out after 8 p.m. for a whole week.I'm not really in the mood for another fun week of spending every night on the couch by myself while Noah is allowed to go out and hang out with our friends.
Not that this happens often, I mean sure I may be a couple minutes late sometimes but two hours late like this does not happen a lot. When I'm late my mom always makes a big deal out of it but when Noah is late all she'll do is make him clean the dishes on his own or something.
Just as I'm about to close my bedroom door behind me I hear the bathroom door open. Please let it be Noah, please let it be Noah. I walk over to my bed and throw my shoes on the floor next to a pile of clothes.
My bedroom door opens and I quickly turn around to see Noah standing in the doorway. I heave a sigh and turn around again to fall down on my bed. I sit straight up again and Noah is now standing next to my bed, the bedroom door closed.
"What?" I'm sitting cross legged and I'm looking up at Noah. He sit's down next to me and then I see the laughter in his eyes. "When I opened your door you spinned around so fast, you thought I was mom right?" I laugh softly, because it's true. "I didn't want mom to give me another speech about how young girls like me are really vulnerable and we shouldn't be out on our one so late." Noah laughs too. "yeah I've heard, luckily she doesn't do that with me though."
I get out of bed to get myself a glass of water and as I walk back I ask Noah, "you know who we ran in to, at the cinema?" Noah shakes his head and I sit down next to him again.
He takes my glass of water and drinks almost all of it. Of course, Noah will take any chance to slightly irritate me if he can, especially now when I can't make to much noise because of mom. I punch him on his arm and he almost drops all the water that's still left in the glass on the floor. He puts the glass next to him on my bedside table.
"So tell me, who did you run in to?" I turn to Noah and sit cross legged again. "We ran into Alex, he-" Noah sit's a little straighter. "Let me guess, he acted like a jerk again?" The way he says it makes me annoyed. It's not in an understanding way, it's in a sarcastic and childish way.
"Well yes, he did. He got pretty aggressive when I asked him something about his mom." Noah groans and pushes a hand through his hair. "F*ck Elynn, why would you ask about his mother."
Noah looks pretty pissed at me but now I'm starting to get pissed as well. "Are you seriously blaming me, I was joking so I asked him if his mother new he had a girlfriend since he was there with some blonde girl and he suddenly got all jacked up telling me he didn't have a 'girlfriend' and that I should mind my own business."
Noah raises his voice. "He's damn right, you should mind your own business, why would you even make a joke about him having a girlfriend anyway?" Now I raise my voice. "Because," I push Noah off my bed before I continue, "he made some stupid joke about me having another boyfriend at work, which is not true, right in front of Jaimy."
Noah raises his eyebrows "He did?" I nod and Noah starts laughing. "He told me he found you annoying but I guess he really doesn't like you then." My mouth drops open. Him talking about me behind my back is one thing, but with my brother. "What an asshole." Noah starts laughing again.
He's already walking back to my door when it opens. Shit. My mom's standing in the doorway and she doesn't look happy, at all. Noah opens his mouth to say something but my mother cuts him of before he can even speak. "I don't even want to know what's going on with you two. Just go to bed right now, we will talk about this when I get back from work tomorrow.
She waits until Noah is gone before she turns to me again. "Elynn, there's also something I wanted to talk to you about but that'll come tomorrow as well okay?" I nod and she leaves again, leaving my door slightly open which means I have to get up to close it again.
Just as I'm about to close my door I see that Noah's door is still open too. Noah is sitting on his bed and my mom sits down next to him. At first Noah looks angry but when my mom sits down next to him his face expression softens. Is Noah crying? My mom puts her arms around him but Noah doesn't hug her back, he's just sitting there.
Suddenly Noah looks up, his gaze meets mine and he quickly dries of his tears and gets up again. I quickly close my door and I walk straight to bed before my mom can see me too.
I knew there was something going on with Noah, the way he reacted when I told him I had asked Alex about his mom. It's not weird to make a joke like that but Noah pretended like it was the worst thing I could've done.
I don't know what's going on with him and I don't know what's going on with Alex, but I'm getting the feeling that they already know each other a lot longer than the rest of us do.
