Yudai Nadare, Ice Dragon of Konoha

Episode 9: Chunin exams and a cute little panda

It has been several days since team 7 returned from their chaotic C-rank, turned A-rank, mission.  During that time, Yudai had returned to his old self and seemingly forgot everything that happened on the mission.

When asked, Yudai either brushed the question off, diverted the conversation, or completely ignored it.  Kakashi had been a little more determined than his other genin. Yudai also noticed and expertly avoided prolonged exposure to him.

As of now, Yudai was resting peacefully in a tree after a tiring day of D-rank missions.  His nose was buried in his Yuki Yuki novel, but his ears picked up a disturbance on the streets.

“That hurt you little punk.” a voice Yudai didn’t recognise.

“Hey, put him down.  This is all a big misunderstanding.” Sakura’s voice was next.

Without looking up from his novel and letting a tired sigh leave his mouth, Yudai formed an ice shard and launched it towards the disturbance.  The sound of it connecting with the street and the slippery surface of ice that instantly formed was enough to make the racket quiet down.

“You guys are a long way from home.  Suna right?” Yudai asked calmly as he turned a page in his book.

“Were you the one who threw that ice shard?” the boy with face paint asked as he let a younger boy go.

“I donno.  Is there anyone else up here?  Besides the possible third member of your group that is.  His chakra feels more of a sand user than an ice user though.” Yudai’s response earned several gasps of surprise.

Shutting his book, Yudai stretched before looking towards the other side of the tree.  Silver eyes met pale green eyes as Yudai propped his left hand under his chin.

“Hey, how ya hanging?” Yudai grinned.

“Hehe, Yudai made a pun.  Get it Sakura? Because he’s hanging upside down.” Naruto snickered.

“Kankuro enough.  You are an embarrassment to our village.” the sea foam eyed boy said, totally ignoring Yudai’s question.

“Hey Gaara.  It’s not what it looks like… you see they challenged us first and-”

“Shut up.”

Yudai watched with board eyes as he formed another ice shard.  A gentle flick of the wrist, and all eyes were drawn to where the shard landed.

“Sasuke!” Sakura exclaimed happily.

“Uchiha, you suck at hiding.  The Suna nin is better at it than you.” Yudai yawned as he used his ice particle effect to teleport to the ground.

Gaara soon followed who was then followed by Sasuke.  Team 7 soon faced the Suna team as a small moment of silence passed.

“You guys here for the exams?” Yudai asked kindly to break the silence.

“Exams?  What are you talking about Yudai?” Sakura asked her white haired teammate.

“This team is here to level up.  Well, assuming they survive.” Yudai replied.

“And just who are you to question whether we’ll survive or not?” the sand haired girl asked.

“I’d rather not tell you my name ma’am.  We’re going to be enemies during the exam, so first names aren’t exactly a priority.” Yudai replied calmly.

“His name is Yudai Nadare.  Who are you?” Sasuke narrowly dodged a punch to the face.

“Who me?” the girl asked with a smile.
