  L, Maki, ___ and the boy had finally arrived at the hotel. It took approximately 2 1/2 hours to get there. It was already beginning to get dark, so it was a good thing that they had already arrived there.

  While in the hotel room, L setup his computer and tried to get into his database, but K happened to lock L out of it.

  L just stared at his computer, but slowly turned to face ___ and the boy. They both looked slightly worried.

  L just patted their heads and said, "it's okay. I knew this might happen."

  ~2 hours later~

  L was still awake doing god-knows-what on his computer. ___ was also awake.

  "L, I can't sleep," said ___.

  "Try to," he said.

  "I have insomnia," she replied.

  L just stayed quiet. ___ just decided to sneak up behind L and hug him.

  L was shocked at first, but turned around and hugged back.

  "L, are we friends?" ___ asked.

  "Hm... I suppose we are," he replied.

  "Yay," she responded. ___ let go of L.

   ~~~~~~~~~
  "What are you? Your job, I mean," ___ asked.
  "I'm a detective. I solve crimes and bring criminals to justice," he responded.
  "Ohhh. Criminals are meanies," ___ said. L chuckled slightly.
  "That is correct."
  ___ just hugged L again, but this time she fell asleep. L took notice of this, and smiled.
~~~~~~~~~~~

  The next day, they all board a bus. L and ___ just act like total goofballs on the bus.

  "Where are we going?" Maki asked.

  "We are going to see a man named Koichi Matsudo," L replied.

  "I know him! But, how do you know him?" Maki asked, quite shocked.

  "I was reading a book about diseases. He and your father were credited as co-writers."

  "Ohh."

  Suddenly, the TV came on.

  "We are coming to you live from [TV station] News! Here we have Dr. Kimiko Kujo," said the news anchor.

  "We are currently missing a patient from the Research Hosptial For Infectious Diseases. She is infected with a highly contagious virus. An effective vaccine has not been made yet. Once symptoms appear, recovery is impossible," said K.

  "Her name is Maki Nikaido. She is 10 years old, and is seem wearing a navy blue uniform," said the news anchor.

A woman looked at Maki and screamed. Everybody else followed suit, and fled the bus.

  "Let's get off. We can't use public transportation anymore," L said, kinda annoyed.

  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  L, Maki, ___ and the boy bought bikes and rode them all the way to Dr. Matsudo's dwelling.
  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?" Dr. Matsudo scolded L.

  "WHY WOULD YOU TRAVEL AROUND THE CITY WITH HER?!? YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SMART; IT'S COMMON SENSE: AVOID DENSELY POPULATED AREAS!!!!!!" He shouted once again.

  "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!?!?" Dr. Matsudo loudly asks.

  ___ plugs her ears. She can't stand loud noises.

  Suddenly, Maki walks into the room.

  "I have to be isolated..." She says. L immediately puts ___ and the boy in a closet. Dr. Matsudo examines the mark on Maki's shoulder. "It's only a tick bite," he says.

  ___ and the boy come out of the closet.

L and Dr. Matsudo work on the antidote for the virus. Meanwhile, ___ and the boy work on some math. The answer to the math problem is 13:11.

The boy turns around and shouts "13:11" over and over again.

"What does that mean?" Dr. Matsudo asks.

"It's a code," L states.

"Where did you guys find this?" L asks ___ and the boy.

"I know! That's the homework my dad gave me to do!" Maki shouts.

  L decodes the ratio and gets the letters: M and K.

L starts to mumble words. "Mid kine..."

  "THAT'S IT! MID KINE IS-"

  "Mid kine is a hormone. It is a possible wonder drug in the treatments of Alzheimer's and other neurological disorders," L states.

  "Is there any way we can synthesize mid kine?" L asks.

  "With 10 billion in research funds and 5 years to work on it," Dr. Matsudo replies.

  "But mid kine is... abundant in a fetus," he continues. L looks at ___ and the boy with curiosity.

  "It has to be a fetus," Dr. Matsudo says.

  "Their village had been wiped out by the virus... But they lived. They've  been thoroughly tested but we were never looking for... The presence of mid kine," L says.

  "Tell me, are you two afraid of needles?" Dr. Matsudo asks.

  "He is, but I am not," ___ responds while pointing to the boy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  After the children had been tested, ___ and the boy; along with L and Maki; had a picnic on the roof. ___ and L were about to eat some sweets, but Maki interrupted them.
  "HOLD IT!" Maki said while glaring. They all understood what she wanted them to do. They put their hands in a praying position.
  "Thank you for the food!" Maki shouted. ___ and L repeated in a monotone voice. They all started eating.
  "Why do you guys eat so much sugar?" Maki asked.
  "Because the human brain's energy source happens to be sugar," L and ___ said at the same time. They smiled slightly at each other.
  "But it's not good for you! You could die..." Maki responded.
  "You may be right about that," L said.
  'And another thing; you two should try to improve your posture," Maki said.
  "No thank you," ___ said and rolled her eyes. L, on the other hand, actually attempted to. Let's just say, it was very cringe-worthy.
  Everyone had a good time, nonetheless.
