hello new chapter for y'all before i go to school.
WARNING; THERE'S SO MUCH FLUFF AT THE END I HATE MYSELF BYE
luke and calum have been good friends for the remainder of the school year. over the summer, they meet up multiple times, and calum never fails to make luke laugh like a madman.
sure he didn't appreciate calum at first, but everyone needs a good friend in their life; someone who will make you laugh when you're at your lowest, and someone who will be there for you even after you do the dumbest thing of your life.
luke did the dumbest thing of his life around year ten when he got his girlfriend of several months pregnant. after luke got the news, he cried for hours upon hours, possibly shedding more tears than when his father had said he was leaving.
his girlfriend and her family moved away shortly after they found out, and the only thing luke knows is that his ex girlfriend is a murderer. she told him she was going to get an abortion, and as far as he knows, she did it. luke hates her with a burning passion in the pit of his stomach. she is an evil girl with a lousy heart, and didn't have the right to kill his child.
around this time, luke's mother had been going through a rough patch. she missed her husband, the love of her life. it was finally starting to sink in that the constant fantasy she had about him running home and pulling her into his arms was anything but real. he was probably having sex with another woman, which hurt more than the thought of him gone.
due to her change in mindset, luke's mother kicked him out when he told her he got his girlfriend pregnant. she gave him nothing but a suitcase to pack, and he did. his eyes were waterfalls as he angrily threw all of his necessities into the space, and stormed out of the house, telling his mother what a horrendous person she was.
his suitcase rolled along loudly behind him as luke walked down the street, kicking small rocks in his path. no car, no job, no money...no support. luke doesn't know what to do.
he does something silly, and runs to calum's house -- it's silly because he doesn't go there to ask to stay with him, but to ask for advice. that hurts calum in the pit of his heart.
"i'm homeless, cal," luke sniffles, sitting on the wooden floor of calum's basement. calum wipes away a tear from luke's reddened cheek, tracing his thumb down his jawline.
"don't say that..." he mumbles softly. "you can stay with me," calum offers with a small smile. luke shakes his head at the ground.
"no, that's too much to expect of you, you're my best friend and all but i can't just move in with you, i'm going to ruin--"
"shh, you're not going to ruin anything, lukey. everything's going to be okay." calum whispers, tracing small circles around luke's thigh. luke appreciates the small gesture as an act of comfort.
he reluctantly agrees to stay with calum and his family, and they sit in relative silence for a while until calum speaks up.
"what's a pepper that won't leave you alone?"
luke sighs, looking up into calum's expectant eyes. calum stares back into luke's, noticing the way that they're the slightest difference between green and blue. something he's always adored.
"jalapeño business," calum throws his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing as a smile spreads onto luke's face.
luke throws his arms around calum's neck, practically now sitting in his lap. calum wraps his arms around his favorite human's waist, smiling into his shoulder.
"i love you, you doofus." luke mumbles into calum's hair.
"i love you too, you sap."
