luke is dressed in all black.

he doesn't bother putting on a suit, but rather throws on two black articles of clothing he already owns. his usually styled hair sticks in every direction, sticking to his forehead lightly from the sweat.

his usually bright eyes are dull and lifeless, red rimming the puffiness underneath them. he is not looking as the pastor begins to speak. he is not crying as people begin to say their condolences. he does not speak when they ask if anyone else has something to say. he is not screaming as they lower calum's body into the ground. he does not pass out on the way home.

he has been silent for the whole day. there's is not one word worth saying that would make any difference to the current situation. calum is dead and there's nothing he can do about it.

the light is gone from his life.

on one cold and cloudy day, only a week after the service, luke returns to the cemetery, finding calum's grave easily. he sits in front of it, and begins speaking.

"hi baby," he begins, his voice shaky. he hasn't spoken a single word in over a week, and it's difficult to find his voice again. his voice is scratchy like sandpaper.

"i miss you so much. i have nothing anymore. i can't eat, and i can't sleep, and i can barely breathe without you here. my heart is open, and i can't close it. my sunshine is gone. i can't believe you're gone." luke rushes, eyes filling with tears once more.

"remember that joke you told me when we were in year eleven?" he asks, a faint smile on his lips. "it was something about a roman and a martini. we were studying about the romans then but i didn't understand it. i still don't understand it, but i laughed anyways because i wanted to see you smile. when you smiled it was like everything broken was being pieced back together. i just can't believe it. every morning i wake up i just expect you to be right there, but you're not."

luke wipes underneath his eyes.

"please come back...i know, i know you can't. but i want you too. i love you more than my whole being."

luke walks home, straight into the bathroom. he leans on his palms against the counter, looking into his eyes in the large mirror.

with waterfalls pouring out of his eyes, luke reaches into the medicine cabinet.

he downs a whole bottle and waits until the moment that calum can explain the joke about the roman and the martini.
