I slowly rose to my feet as they baseball players walked away. A bit of my blood covering the floor. I knew I had a busted lip and bleeding nose. It hurt to straighten up some due to the pain that surged threw my back.
I slowly walked to Mrs. Fields room and asked for Cody then just started walking back. The more I was gone I knew the more Mr. Jones would be worried. I saw Cody pass me and he said a dirty slur as he walked into the room. My ears only fell. I was lucky that right across the room was a bathroom.
I walked inside and started to clean myself up. I stood over the sink spiting up blood and getting paper towels and whipped the blood off my noes.
"Tried to hide the damage huh?" I heard someone say behind me. My ears fell as my markings turned white and tail going around my waist. I looked in the mirror to find Mr. Jones leaning against the wall.
"And to think, the day started out so good." I muttered still cleaning myself up. He walked next to me and took my face in his hands carefully and made me looked at him. I cried in pain. He frowned and lifted my shirt exposing bright green and purple bruises on my back and chest.
"Jack!" he gasped, "Who did this to you?" I didn't say for if I did it would only cause more problems. I just looked away.
"No Jack. Don't go quiet on me now. We were just getting to know each other!" I only looked down and tried to clean myself up. He grabbed my hand and led me back to his classroom. Everyone was still doing work.
I sat on the floor behind the desk as he sat in the chair.
"Look at me Jack..." I didn't, I just looked at he floor.
"Please Jack...look at me..." he said quietly. I slowly looked up.
"Good! Now please talk to me please. Tell me who did this to you Jack please." I didn't say a word. I could tell this made him upset. He sighed and turned in his seat looking at the class.
"And everything was just starting to turn for the better."
I sat on the floor all day until his last period which was football where I had to go outside and sit in the bleachers or on the bench. It was a normal football field it had a track around it which was better then sitting down so I just jogged on that the whole time. Yeah the football team would stop and look at me for a few minuets some would wink but I never gave them any attention 'cause I knew if I did they too would be upset if they saw what happen to me.
So like I said I just jogged the whole time and dwelled in my thoughts like I normally did, it brought inner peace to me and made time go by faster.
I hear footsteps behind me and I look to see who it was. It was the other football coach Mr. Mont, I hardly see much of him due to the fact he's new as well. He just jogged up beside me.
"Hey Jack!" he said panting lightly. I only kept going don't responding.
"See me and Mr. Jones were talking about how you hardly talk anymore. We wanted to see who you'd rather trust. So do you think you can talk to me? Even if it's just a hello?" I didn't even bother replying back. They most likely made a bet.
I just jogged faster losing him behind me. I look to find Coach Jones, who was on the field practicing with his team. He believed if you did things with your team you'll get more results from them. I slowed to a stop and sat down on a bench.
I wasn't tired or even sweating yet. I just wanted to watch. I've never had much interest in football and I still don't. He wasn't bad looking and he did care...as far as I knew. I don't wasn't to get to deep in this cause I might get hurt if it's a scam.
"Hey Jack." I looked behind me and shielded my eyes from the sun. It was the team captain. I still don't know his name isn't that sad?
I scooted over and just looked down. I knew he'd see my wounds. He just sat down next to me and looked at me. He was wearing his football pads and jersey. Our colors were black and red symbolizing the Wildcats.
"Jack what happen? Who did this to you?" his ears fell flat on his head as he took my face in his hands gently. I looked over at the baseball field which wasn't far off. It wasn't baseball season but the coach didn't care he just wanted his boys to train hard so they didn't lose. They were all out there practicing hitting and running we had the best baseball team around we always won. I looked back at the Doberman, pain in his eyes.
He got up and grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the field. My ears fell.
"Come train with us Jack please were not doing anything but tossing a ball right now and running." I sighed knowing he wouldn't let me go if I didn't agree. I nodded and he smiled. Everyone smiled as I walked out on the field were they were all lined up for a run. Field goal to field goal and back again. Seemed a bit long and I didn't know if my back could take it.
"Jack if ANYONE can do this its you." chuckled one of the members. I only shook my head and got on the line.
"Wait! Only to make it fair don't you think he needs padding or we need to take theirs off?" yelled one of the coaches on the sidelines. Mr. Jones smiled and nodded taking off his gear and the whole team followed. Only few were wearing shirts. They had to keep the pants on luckily. I felt like I was in the middle of a huge buffet. I knew they were all showing off for me which only made me blush as I tried hard not to notice. My markings turning pink.
"Go!" yelled one of the coaches and we were off.
