Chapter 17: The Lightening Dragon Child
Natsu and Cobra both sat at a table in what the elder, Touhou, had called the 'courthouse of the town.' The old man sat across from them looking very passive and almost fragile, with his withered hands clasping each other as they rested on the table.
Cobra was looking nervous as he waited patiently. After what felt like forever Natsu spoke up asking why they were here.
"Ahh well. As the representatives of your village..."
"Representatives?" Cobra asked extremely surprised. He leaned forward. "What's this about?"
"We need to have a serious discussion over what has happened to Ís Drekkin."
The boys sighed. They had hoped to come here and relax a little while before getting thrown into any politics and what not. But it was expected considering they were directly involved on multiple levels.
Cobra leaned back in his chair and prepared himself for a long discussion. "What do you want us to say?"
"I would hope, that it wasn't real..." Touhou sighed closing his eyes. "That Ís Drekkin was still standing."
"So do we." Natsu said sadly.
"We were there as it happened..." Cobra said. "We're sorry we couldn't do better to help."
Touhou raised a hand and shook his head. "There was nothing you could do... Based on your story this would have happened with age anyway. The humans simply sped up the inevitable."
There was a silence after that. Natsu and Cobra really felt guilty about not being able to do more for the Mountain City. If they had tried harder or if Cobra had approached Vera and her friend while he had first found them...
Natsu gripped Cobra's hand under the table, sensing his internal conflict. He relaxed and let out a breathe of air he hadn't realized he was holding. Natsu was probably feeling the same way... It wasn't there faults. He had to keep telling himself that.
"With Ís Drekkin gone now there are hundreds of Dragon Children with no home..." Touhou said. "And you Valley dragons can't go back for another few months."
The tan male nodded his head. "We had many go to... Sky Drive, while the necessary are coming here."
"It's mainly made up of those and their families in need of nests for..." Natsu paused, feeling awkward at mention that they had to lay eggs. It was still weird for either of the slayers to think that Natsu was going to lay eggs.
"I understand." The elder said. "Though we have limited space."
Cobra leaned on the table. "At Ís Drekkin, we kept several Dragon Children in one home at once. We can do that again right?"
"We can... But with so many Dragon Children carrying their own children..." Touhou made a face. Cobra suddenly got the mental image of two hormonal dragon children having mood swing together, mainly crying a lot and starting fights. He paled a little. Touhou nodded in understanding while Natsu sat oblivious to the conversation; he was poking at his stomach, most likely off in his own little world now.
The poison dragon swallowed a lump in his throat before asking what to do about the humans.
"Well..." The elder stroked at his beard. "Naturally... We wage war."
Cobra stood up immediately, his chair falling backwards behind him. Natsu and Touhou looked at him surprised. The maroon haired man had fear and horror in his wide purple eyes. Images from the scroll he had read back in the Valley flashed through his head. "You... You can't be serious...."
