"Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life"

-How to Save a Life, The Fray

*****

When Finn's body is nothing more than a pile of ashes on little pieces of wood, the two groups move to a more private room where their alliance will begin with a feast.

Why a feast will signify the beginning of the alliance, Ash does not know.

But the food gathered on the very large table that divides the two sides looks very appetizing so she won't question it.

All of the food has been prepared by the Grounders so Kane, unwilling to show up to a feast unprepared, hands a bag that contains a bottle in it to Lexa. "Please accept this gift, Commander," he says. "We drink this on special occasions. I believe this qualifies."

"Moonshine," Ash says with a content sigh. She wants nothing more than to grab that drink and down the entire bottle to forget about her worries for a night.

But before she can even have a sip of the bottle, the man next to Lexa—Gustus, Ash had learned his name to be—takes the bottle from Kane and begins to pour it into cups.

"Thank you, Marcus, of the Sky People," Lexa says.

"You're welcome, Lexa kom Trikru."

"Let us drink together, to begin the process of combining our clans," Lexa begins as Gustus pours the drink into several cups and hands them to Clarke, Bellamy, and Ash.

"Heda, allow me," Gustus commands, looking at the sky-people suspiciously before taking a long sip of the drink. After a few seconds, he hands it to Lexa with a slow smirk.

"Tonight, we celebrate our newfound peace. Tomorrow, we plan a war. To those we've lost." Lexa holds her cup up. "And to those, we will find."

Just as they begin to drink—the cups at their lips—Gustus begins coughing and gasping until he falls to the ground.

"Poison!" One of the Grounders shouts in accusation as Bellamy knocks the cup out of both Ash and Clarke's hands.

"It was the sky people!" Indra accuses, her sword directed at Clarke threateningly.

Ash takes out her sword as well, knocking Indra's out of Clarke's path. "Why would we try to break a truce we just made when we need it in order to save our people?"

Indra continues to glare daggers at them all. "Search them."

And they do search them all, coming up empty-handed in everyone.

Everyone but Raven.

Lexa glares at a shocked Clarke. "Gustus warned me about you. I didn't listen. Tell me, Clarke, when you plunged a knife into the man you loved, did you not wish it was mine?"

Clarke doesn't answer, and that seemed to be enough answer to Lexa for she turns to shaking Raven. "No sky person leaves this room!"

Smith and all the other Grounders leave the room quickly, leaving fearful sky people behind.

"So..." Ash grimaces at the roughness in her own voice. "What now?"

*****

"You think she did it?" Clarke asks Ash bluntly a few minutes after the Grounders left the room.

Ash thinks for a few minutes before responding. "No. But if she did, I can't say that I blame her. We all bargained with the people who sentenced the man she loved—loves—to death. I can certainly see where she's coming from if she did it."
