Inside the grain silo
It had been 3 days now without proper food nor proper water, the people in the Silo had now seen enough, heard enough, and now were at breaking point - fear of what was lurking in the outside open air, and the possibility of one within their confined space turning against them, then someone amongst them spoke out.
"Prince Okovo we obviously can't be here forever it's been 3 days now and we're rapidly running out of food supplies, those Zooms outside at least seem to have become slower in their strides as can be seen through the Silo overhead windows, we can even attempt to outrun them as a possible exit plan.
Dr. Mbezi spoke out in agreement "Yes, she's right We need to exit this place, the Zooms are clearly becoming Zombies. The virus is loosing it's ability to boost their strength because they haven't fed in days but I don't agree that we should outrun them, we have women with babies, as well as young children who won't keep up.
Prince Okovo looked at them, and immediately agreed to coming up with an exit plan which doesn't endanger the lives of the people. But seconds later, sounds of roaring engines emerged from a distance. It was a convoy of military Humvees and they seemed purposeful in their coming.
No sooner had the vehicles stopped did the Zooms begin to make small strides to the vehicles. Ear-piercing sounds of .50 Cal machine guns echoed the entire village for close to 10 minutes then later on fewer rounds could be heard.
Prince Okovo reached for one of the overhead windows and shouted out something towards the soldier Manning the .50 Calibre turret on the Humvee closest to the silo, he turned the weapon around and fired it at Prince Okovo who immediately ducked. The windows were shattered by the bullets, Some rounds pierced through the light steel silo wall and hit two males who died immediately, Dr. Mbezi was helpless to help them without any medical tools.
Aerial view of the Silo
Someone outside shouted an order and the gunshots stopped. An order was given to the occupants for the Silo door to open, and it was opened. When the dust raised from a gust of wind cleared, there in full view stood General Louis. Mobutu who's hands had been tied to a pole, looked on with excitement, looking to General Louis he repeatedly shouted demanding to be released.
General Louis looked to Prince Okovo, and offered his condolences of the death of his father, as well as the death of the two people in the silo, "the deaths of those two people was not warranted, a man driven by fear for days whilst manning a huge gun is a recipe for disaster, I have suspended the soldier from any combat until further psychological medical review" - this soldiers name was Private DuPont.
General Louis then looked at Lumumba's children and equally apologized for the trauma he had put them through and hoped they would find it in their heart to forgive him. He continued "We were lied to, nothing of what we were told was true. This is the greatest shame of my life that we were so gullible"
"Mobutu had us believe that we were fighting a foreign enemy which was trying to influence the presidency of Lumumba to continue with it's illegal mining, labour abuse of using children as miners and illegal shipping of minerals. But what we didn't know was that Mobutu was carrying out experiments on his own people to discover a drug that could make his soldiers immune to diseases of the jungle, less sensitive to pain, have super strength to run for hours, lift heavy objects, and could go for days without sleep. The ultimate human weapon, in his eyes he wanted to re-colonize Africa this time under one government with him as it's leader. When your father King Neferti refused to co-operate with him by giving him any more human test subjects because he hadn't seen any come back home. With this Mobutu used force to have his way of getting more people through kidnapping. But your father sent a letter to President Lumumba, whom also sent a letter to Dag Hammersjkold the UN Secretary General as he felt there were also other international business entities involved, the Secretary General then believed the letter he had received from a Dr. Mbezi as ultimately a concern to be taken seriously.
Mobutu realizing that the "cat was out of the bag" he resorted to use the only means available to squash this issue from hitting international news tabloids assassinating the UN Secretary General as well as staging a Coup D'etat. Clearly this big move was too premature to make but had to be made.
Though he succeeded, the only thing he forgot to do was adhere to the advice of Dr. Mbezi who advised for the Research facilities security infrastructure to be reinforced. This he did not do and when the test subjects became too strong to be contained. As they say, the rest is history.......
I had heard these things in rumours but dismissed them as hearsay, waiting on official Intel - little did I know that he had control of the Intel reaching us, letting us know only what he wanted us to know. I only believed the rumours to be true when I saw the Zoom's for myself. My small team of soldiers and I were the lucky few to get out alive by first holding ourselves out in the hangar for two days then charging out. Mobutu being the coward he is had fled Southwards, it is he we followed. He must stand trial for peddling propaganda, treason, murder and other related crimes against humanity.
At this juncture Mobutu became paranoid with rage and hurled insults to the General.....Mobutu continued "I am the Commander in Chief of the armed forces you are committing an act of treason by keeping me tied up, conniving with the enemy of the people of this nation, I order you to release me!!!! Any soldier hearing his I order you to shoot General Louis.... And release me!!!!!!"
Prince Okovo let loose a fist and it came crushing onto Mobutu's forehead knocking him out cold. Okovo looked at his bruised fist and said to the general, "I don't trust you, you facilitated the death of Patrice Lumumba these children's father and I certainly would love to drive a knife through you right now"
General Louis retorted, "the feeling is mutual"Okovo continued "I must think of the bigger picture which is the well-being of my people, or whatever is left of them. Survival precedes justice right now."
General Louis quipped with a smirk on his face, "wise choice."
Okovo with a straight face responded, "So then let's leave this hell hole."You, Yes you whos faithfully reading this book, thank you. Feel free to continue putting a smile on my face by pressing the star if you enjoying the book.
