Chapter Seven: Nina

"Big sister, y/n!" Nina yelled, hugging/tackling me. I fell to the floor but couldn't help but laugh. "I told you I'd come back!" I hugged her back and picked her up.

"Well, boss." Havoc said, as he startef leaving. He had a light smirk. "I'll sent someone to pick you guys up this afternoon." He waved at us and headed towards the car.

Ed looked at Nina and me with a deadpanned expression at first but when we both smiled widely at him, he blushed a deep shade of red and looked away.

"W-we have to continue our research, Nina..." He patted her head. "We'll play later, ok?"

She frowned and looked down. "Ok..." I put her down half-heartedly.

Ed, Al and I headed to the library. "Alright, guys, same as yesterday." I said in an energenic voice. "Al you take care of the ones on the left." He looked back at me and nodded. "Yes, ma'am!"

I smiled and turn to his brother. "And Ed you take care of.... Ed..?" He already had his nose stuck in a book.

I couldn't help but smile when I saw how focused he was. He seemed so concentrated, I doubt he even knew I was there.

I hadn't realize I was staring until I heard Al say. "You know, y/n, staring at brother isn't gonna help us get our bodies back."

I felt my face burn as I took a random book and started to read. "I have no idea what you're talking about..." I mumbled, trying not to make eye contact. Al just chuckled.

"Your book is upside down."

I gave him a sheepish laugh and put my book the tight way. Al mocked me a little more and got back to reading.

The book I had found had nothing to do with what Ed and Al were reseaching at all. It was about bioalchemy of course but it was explaining how to make a chimera.

I furrowed my eyebrows. Even though I would never try it, it seemed interesting. It said that the closest thing to chimeras that can be made without alchemy were mutants and hybrids. The problem with mutants is That, due to natural selection, their lifespan could be endangered and in the case of hybrids, they were infertile.

The book said that the most important thing before making a chimera was to make sure that there was compatibility between the subjects. If not, they would both reject each other on the spot... To prevent that, sample testing was mandatory.

After a few hours of reading, I decided to take a break. I looked to my right and to find Ed still reading silently.

I walked up to him and took the book out of his hand. He jumped and looked at me confused. "B-but--" "Payback." I said with a smirk as he rolled his eyes. "Tss, whatever..."

I felt observed, so I looked behind a shelf and saw a little brunette with dark blue doll eyes and a huge fluffy white dog looking at us. I giggled and walked up to them. "Hey, Nina!" I sat on the floor and pulled her on my lap.

Ed brought Al and joined us. We all sat in a circle.

"Hey, Nina?" I asked with furrowed eyebrows. She turned to look at me. "Hm?"

"If you don't mind me asking, where's your mom?"

She frowned and looked away. "Sorry..." I looked down, feeling guilty. Ed looked at me with a look that said 'Way to go!'.

I glared at him. Asshole.

Nina shook her head. "No, it's ok... She left me and my dad when I was 3 years old..." She explained.
