*****Taylor POV*****
"Awwwww. They're so cute." Someone whispers. I lift my head to see Karen and the other nurse, Mackenzie, staring at Jake and I. Great. I look over and see that Jake is halfway on on his bed and halfway on mine. And my back is against his chest, his arm draped over my chest. I look at our hands, still intertwined. I silently groan and shut my eyes again.
Jake shifts so that he's practically on top of me. "Oh my." Mackenzie whispers. "Should we do something?" Mackenzie asks. "No. They're not gonna do anything." Karen replies softly. "Ok. If you say so." Mackenzie says, unconvinced. "Taylor?" Jake whispers. I open my eyes and the nurses rush out. "Yeah?" I ask. He opens his eyes and sees his position.
"Oops. I hope I didn't hurt you or anything." He says, holding back a laugh. "No. You've only been like this for about 5 minutes." I reply, facing him. He smiles. "That's too bad." He grins. I blush. "Stooooppppp." I say laughing. But I kiss the tip of his nose. "That's all I get?" He asks, a little nervous. "Of course not." I laugh, then kiss him on his lips this time.
"How's that?" I ask. "Perfect." He replies, smiling. He moves over, back onto his bed and moves like all the way against the wall. Then he pats the spot next to him. I crawl in with him and stare up at the ceiling. "Taylor?" He asks. "Yes?" I reply. "Will I be okay?" He asks. I look into his eyes and see that they're welling up with tears.
"I hope so. A few broken ribs and a broken leg shouldn't be able to stop you for a long time." I say, brushing the hair out of his face. "Thanks. I needed that. When will I get out of this hellhole??" He asks. "I'll go ask." I reply. "Wait. Don't leave me." He begs. "Okay." I say, smiling to myself. He presses the red call button and Karen comes in.
"When will I be released?" He blurts. "Hmmm. Well, you'll have to see the doctor today. You have an appointment in like 10 minutes, but after that you should be good to go." Karen replies, smiling at us. "Where is the appointment?" He asks. "In here. So you don't have to move." Karen replies. "Thanks." Jake says. She nods and walks out.
I sigh and put my head on his shoulder. "What's wrong?" He asks, gently stroking my hair. "Everything." I reply. "Not everything. We, we are perfect." He replies softly. "Yeah. We are." I whisper. My stomach growls. "You haven't eaten since before the game, have you?" He asks. "No. I didn't want to leave you." I reply. "Wow. Now that's a good girlfriend." Says a voice.
I look up and see the doctor standing at the door, smiling. I blush and sit up. Jake tries to, but winces. Then he pulls himself all the way up. "Hmmm. Okay. My name is Dr. Garcia. Let's take a look here." Dr. Garcia says. I hop off of Jake's bed. "Um. I'm gonna go to the cafeteria." I say, glancing at Jake. Jake nods and smiles.
I walk out of the room and into the elevator. I press floor 2 and wait for the doors to close. Alexis and another nurse are in the elevator. Also, there's 2 guys about my age, checking me out. Alexis glares at me. I smile and she rolls her eyes. "She really has it out for you, huh?" Someone asks. I turn around and see Tanner standing there.
"Oh hey. I didn't know you were on the elevator." I exclaim. He laughs. "I was just in the corner." He says, smiling. "Where are you going?" He asks. "Cafeteria. I haven't eaten since before yesterday's game." I reply. "Nice. I'm going there too." Tanner says. "Cool." I reply. "How's Jake?" He asks. "Pretty good. He's meeting with his doctor right now. He might be able to come home today." I reply.
"That's great!" Tanner exclaims. "It really is." I laugh. The elevator stops at floor 2 and Tanner and I get out. We find the cafeteria and get in line. I grab a Gatorade, applesauce, and a breakfast bar. "$6.50." The cashier says. I hand her the money and walk out. I eat my applesauce quickly and gobble down my breakfast bar, drinking Gatorade in between bites.
I wave goodbye to Tanner and run out of the room. I press the 4th floor when I get to the elevator. When I get up there, I run to Jake's room. Dr. Garcia waves me in. "Wow. That only took 10 minutes." Jake says. "Yeah, well. I wasn't that hungry." I reply. He raises his eyebrows, but nods anyways. "As I was telling Jake, it looks like he's doing fine. I'll give him a pair of crutches, but if it hurts your ribs, then I have to give you a wheelchair." Dr. Garcia explains.
I nod. "He can come home today. I just need to write up some prescriptions." Dr. Garcia says. I nod and she walks out. "That's good. You can come home." I exclaim. "I know. I can't wait. But I don't know how I'll get up and down stairs." He worries. "We'll move you downstairs." I reply. "You too?" He asks. "Sure." I reply, smiling. Dr. Garcia walks back in.
"Here you go." She says, handing me the prescriptions. Then she holds out a bunch of papers that I sign. She walks over to the cupboard and pulls out crutches. "Here." She says, then she takes the papers. "You're good to go. Just sign out in the lobby, Taylor." She says. "Okay. Thanks." I reply. She nods and walks out. I help Jake out of his bed and onto the crutches.
"I'm so glad that you're coming home." I say excitedly. "Me too." He smiles. We go out of his room and I grab his stuff on the way out. He crutches to the elevator and I press floor 1 when it stops. We get in and wait for it to stop. When we get to the lobby, I sign out. "Shit." I groan. "What?" Jake asks. "I don't have a car. I came here right after the game, so I didn't bring your truck." I say, groaning again.
"That's a problem." Jake says. "Yeah." I agree. "Never fear, Zach is here!!!!" Zach yells. I look over and see him waiting in the lobby seats. I laugh. "We have a ride now." I say to Jake. "I guess we do." He smiles. We walk out to Zach's truck and I help Jake into the back. He spreads out on the 3 back seats. "Thanks, Zach." I say, getting in the passenger seat. "No problem." Zach says, smiling at me.
