I yawned and stretched across Harry’s chest. I lifted the curtain of the frosted window and swiped a hand across the glass to wipe away the cold. It was still a bit dark, but I could see the sky lightening to a grey-blue.
Harry was snoring very faintly under me, his chest heaving up and lifting me when he inhaled. I buried my head into his warm neck and tugged the blanket tighter around us. It will definitely take me time to get used to these cold mornings. After a few minutes of lying in bed, I decided to beat my boredom and make myself a cup of hot chocolate. I climbed out of the bed to find that Nick was sleeping soundly above us.
After sneaking into the kitchen quietly in the dead of early morning, I switched on the kettle and grabbed a mug. I slowly poured in the steaming water once heated and wrapped my numb fingers around the cup. My bare legs were shaking with cold.
“Early riser?” Jamie whispered with a smile as he walked into the kitchen.
I chuckled quietly. “Just couldn’t get back to sleep.”
“Right.” He nodded with a grin.
I moved back for him to begin making his coffee.
“Jamie," I paused for a second as he glanced over, “I don’t think we ever actually talked much about that kiss.”
“You said we were never to speak of it."
“Yeah, but I feel like it’s awkward between us now.”
“I regret it as much as you do. It was a mistake that I hope we can move on from to be friends,” he murmured with a smile.
“I’d like that.” I smiled back while softly sipping my hot chocolate.
He looked down at me again and arched an eyebrow. “Do you know what’s going on with Macy?”
“No, I think she hates me now,” I huffed.
“No one can hate you. She’s just going through some bad stage.”
We both fell silent in thought before he spoke up again, “I knew we’d be friends from the beginning. That was the most frustrating part.”
“What do you mean? Like when you see the future?”
“They gave us a funny name, fortune-tellers. Not every future is fortunate, you know? I admit I liked you when we first met, as I’m sure you managed to notice, but somewhere in me I knew you and Harry would end up together."
I frowned, “Sorry.”
“Don’t apologise,” he said, “One thing I’ve learnt is everything happens purposely, nothing is luck and nothing is chance. You and Harry were meant to find each other and our paths are only supposed to cross, not join.”
“It must be quite scary to see what the future beholds.”
“The future is knowledge, and knowledge can be scary.” He nodded. “It’s strange isn’t it? We are all afraid of knowledge as much as we are the unknown.”
“Depends what the knowledge is,” I shrugged.
“True.” He smiled, “for instance, a beautiful girl parades in my dreams and I have no idea who she is, but I am sure I will.”
“A girl?”
“She has the longest hair, black like the night’s sky, and yet shining with glossy stars. And her eyes, I only catch a glimpse of them, but they are as blue as the calmest seas.”
“So who do you think this girl is?” I murmured with a soft smile.
“She’s a salvation. I got the feeling it wouldn’t just be me that needed her,” he murmured. “I actually saw Harry, too.”
