Stars

I don't prefer the sun,
I think it's too invasive,
I find it to be too harsh.
I much prefer the stars,
they are comforting and lovely,
strong but humble,
tranquil and soothing.
Some days,
the sky seems to exist without either,
to the eyes that view it from earth.
When it does,
it feels as if something is missing from the earth,
it feels as if something is missing from the atmosphere.
The world moves on without constellations in its view,
time still progresses on cloudy days,
as the sky appears to be ebbing and flowing,
from day to night,
without rays or stars to show for it,
without the sun or stars to guide it.
When it does,
it feels as if something is missing,
it feels like nostalgia,
to desire so strongly,
for something to return,
when not long ago,
it was there.
I much prefer the stars,
they are comforting and lovely.
They are strong and soothing.
You are the stars in my sky,
the constellations that make things better,
filling in a missing piece.
