"How am I supposed to tell her about the divorce?" I mumble to myself as I do the dishes, "I'll wait till her mother gets back from thinking."

4 years later...

*Knock, Knock, Knock!*

"Pumpkin, can you go see who's at the door please?"

"Yes, daddy!" she exclaimed.

9-year old, Maya, opened the door to find a mysterious, yet familiar woman standing there, a cigarette in hand.

"Wow, look how big you've gotten!" the woman said, amazed, her voice raspy - probably from smoking.

"Do I know you?" Maya questioned.

"You probably don't remember me. It has been a few years, hasn't it?" the woman mumbled to herself, as she let out a puff of smoke.

"Ok, then..."

"Is your father home?"

"Daddy! There's a weird lady at the door for you!" the lady scoffed at the rude comment the young girl made.

"Coming, coming."

"Well, hello there," the lady begins, as I walked to the door.

"Do I know you?" I asked, suspicious.

"Funny, our daughter asked me the same question. I sure hope you know me. We only lived together for 7 years, but then, someone wanted me out of the house because I'm a 'bad influence' for that one," the woman said, pointing at Maya.

"Pumpkin, can you go wait upstairs in your room please? It'll take a while."

"Ok, daddy."

She hurried up the stairs, her door softly closing behind her.

"Why are you here? What do you want?"

"I'm here for the divorce."
