"You can stay here tonight, but we need to leave in the morning. If we stay here more of those men will come." Friedrich said after quietly assessing the situation for a moment.
"We? As in my sister, you, and I?"
"Yes, all of us. You two can sleep up here," he said nodding at the door, "I have a room downstairs. You are free to walk around, but do not leave the house, the Nazis have eyes everywhere; if they see anyone, we are all dead. Try to keep the curtains closed as much as possible, they’ll block out any light and prevent others from seeing in."
Alexis gently wrapped her arms around him and set her head on his chest once more.
"Thank you Friedrich." She said, before disappearing back into the room.
Friedrich stood there for a moment absorbing the situation.
“If they see anyone, we are all dead.” He repeated in his mind as his hand glided down the wooden handrails of the stairs, which creaked and popped under each step.
When Friedrich reached the first floor he turned right; pushing opened a white, paint chipped, door and closing it behind him.
Friedrich knelt down on one knee, opening a black and bronze steamer trunk that lay in the corner of the room. He glanced over the tomes that laid piled in it's corner. Among the trunk's treasures was a blanket, some spare clothes, trinkets and memories from the past; as well as, a streak of silver that glinted in the stale lighting of the room.
Friedrich grasped the tool with his right hand, staring into its silver sheen before securing it as an extension of his left forearm. He nodded his wrist back to activate the mechanisms. It sang a sharp, sweet, tone as the blade sailed out of it's housing, before once again retreating speedily.
"It would be a good idea to keep this on me from now on." Friedrich thought to himself, "wouldn't want a repeat of that brawl."
He sat on the edge of the bed recounting the events of the day, "If Alexis hadn't have come here when she did I would be lying dead on the floor..."
Friedrich laid his head down onto his pillow and closed his eyes. "She can't learn of my secret, if she knew the things I've done..." He didnt allow his conscious to finish that thought.
His body felt heavy, and sleep soon overpowered him; gently caressing him into it's dark embrace.
