the thing about
regret
is you don't really feel it until
after everything you loved or
stood for is part of the rubble.
there is no warning,
no
TURN-BACK-NOW-OR-YOU-WILL-REGRET-THIS
signs with neon running around the edges
and strobe lights pulsing like a oncoming migraine.
the only sign you'll ever see is like the
"YOUR-SPEED-HERE" ones,
the ones where only the car behind you
sees how far you were going over the limit.
that, unfortunately is how regret works,
in the back of the line,
as the final act in a play,
the concluding novel in a series.
(basically, when you're screwed over, life is hell, and it feels like you let a grenade drop in a full animal shelter... well, that's when you feel regret.)
