Hazel enjoyed going to a mortal high school with her friends. It was less stressful than school in New Rome, which mainly focused on studying monsters and how to kill them. That didn't mean that she didn't miss it sometimes, especially during Algebra class, it made no sense to her why they added letters to math. She looked much younger than she actually was, so that allowed her to pass off as a freshman. She had Annabeth help her catch up on modern school work when Hazel fell behind, which she was thankful for. But Hazel was still slow when it came to how things worked socially. She had been unaware that everyone else saw her as an easy target, but they knew that they couldn't do anything to her in fear of being killed by her boyfriend Frank. One day, Frank had to get to Camp Jupiter on short notice and wasn't able to make it to school. Three seniors saw his absence as the perfect opportunity to mess with her. Hazel had spilled some books out of her locker, she was used to Frank getting them for her because he was able to reach them better than she could. The school had given her a top row locker despite her limited height. As she was picking up the books, one of them smacked them all backdown. "Oh sweet, defenseless Hazel. No Frank to save you today." She did not feel like getting in a fight today, so she attempted to walk to the other side but the other two boys blocked the remaining exits. "Please move out of my way." Hazel said looking down, her voice underlining the threat "or I'll make you move." Of course, none of the others caught this, or at least didn't think much of it, they also took the fact she wouldn't face them as a sign of fear. "Aw, you scared ? What are you going to do about it ?" One of them said in a teasing tone as he inched closer, to close. In 10 seconds flat, all the boys were on the floor holding onto precious body parts. Never mess with a girl who can control the ground along with most metal objects. "Excuse me," she said sweetly, then stepped over them as if nothing had happened. Those three never underestimate her again and made sure to stay clear of her and Frank wherever they went.
