After about ten minutes, Faith pulled up just outside a long, huge driveway, leading to the most spectacular, enormous house I'd ever seen. It made us all gasp with excitement.
The front of Emma's family mansion had been completely covered in fairy lights and glow in the dark party decorations of vibrant colours. As we got out of the car parked just opposite on the long street full of big, detached houses, we walked along a big, semi-circular gravel drive with two big fancy cars parked on the edge. There was a little gate with a small fence running around the edge, and I noticed, what looked like security cameras and alarms on the top corners of the house. We pushed the creaking gate open, and then wandered along a narrow gravel pathway leading up to the huge, double front doors. The muffled, but loud sound you hear outside a house with a party was drifting out over the driveway and street. All along the pathway were glow in the dark hearts and stars, amid tall trees. Thousands of tiny little fairy lights hung from the top of the house and draping down from the walls reflected in my blue eyes like shimmering stars. Emma's place was so grand and the decorations so obviously over the top, it made Faith gasp in excitement and Anna groan in distaste.
"How can a place have so much colour and light? And these decorations? I feel like I'm inside some mixed up show of Tellytubbies and Mario Cart!"
"Hey, shut up you!" Faith said,"and stop being a Grinch. We came to this party to have fun. And that is what we're going to do. We don't need your gothic little black soul darkening everything."
Anna laughed at this coldly. "Well at least my costume doesn't make people need protection glasses," she retorted.
Faith rolled her eyes. "At least I put effort into mine. What did you do? Just look in your closet and throw a couple of stuff out?"
"Shut up and stop bickering! Both of you!" I shouted, irritated. We had now stopped walking down the path, and I was in between Anna and Faith, looking at both of them.
"I thought we were coming to this party as friends? Not bickering every five seconds! And what was that you just said earlier Faith about coming to have fun? Doesn't feel like that at the moment does it?" I said, staring at them both, throwing my head side to side and turning around to look at them either side of me.
"Please can we just forget about this and loosen up? I really don't want to be going to a party, stuck in the middle, whilst my friends argue the whole time! And I don't think you guys want to either, do you really?"
Anna continued to stare at her feet sheepishly, and Faith was looking at me with an apologetic and considering look.
"You're so right Posy," she said. "I'm sorry Anna. I love your costume really. You look beautiful," she said.
"Awe, so do you," Anna said, looking up from her feet and smiling warmly at Faith. They both walked over to each other and hugged apologetically, and then I joined in and put my arms around them both in a group, friendship hug.
I smiled gladly. Finally the problem was resolved. We were going to Emma's party. And it was going to be so fun. I held both their hands cheerfully as we walked up the pathway to the house, and pressed what looked like a little buzzer and intercom, with a little lens built into it for security. The button buzzed three times once I pressed it, and then an unrecognisable voice came through the speaker.
"Hello. Who are you?" it asked intimidatingly. Faith spoke up uncertainly.
"Umm- we're here for Emma's party of course! Can't you see our costumes?"
"Show your invitations please," the voice demanded. I pulled out the invite from my tiny pocket in my skirt, and Anna and Faith did the same. We held them up to the lens, as Anna muttered in my ear,
