It started as a usual day, until up to lunch.
"Hey Jacob! Come sit at my table today," Mia said strangely. Mia was usually really snobby and mean.
"Is this some kind of joke?" he asked. Mia looked offended on the outside. Jacob knew that she was planning something because deep down in her poison eyes there was mischief. He could feel it.
"You know, maybe I'll just stick with sitting with my friends. Like usual," he said nervously, backing away. Her eyes burned into him he turned and ran to his table.
"Is something wrong, Jacob?" Chaya asked. Her pretty hair was in a high ponytail, and she was wearing a purple shirt that had print he couldn't read.
"No," he lied. Something was totally wrong, and he knew it. Something about Mia always didn't feel right. Chaya raised a brow.
"Mhm. Sit down. Grover will join us soon,"
Just as she said it, Grover plopped into his seat and sighed.
"Hey man! What's up?" he asked Grover.
"The sky. Obviously," Grover teased.
"What else?"
"Clouds, the sun, airplanes, birds-"
"And you'll be joining those things if you guys don't stop acting like idiots!" Chaya interrupted.
"And how do you suppose you would do that?" Grover asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I'd punch you so hard, you'd fly into the air!"
"I'd like to see you try," Jacob teased. Chaya started to tackle Jacob playfully, when a strangely familiar- but messed up- voice interrupted them.
"Well isn't that adorable. I hate to break you two up, but i need to talk to Jacob. Privately," a voice said. They turned to see Mia standing there. Something seemed to be sticking out of her back.
Before Jacob could think, she grabbed his hand and dragged him away. Chaya made a yelp of protest, and Grover stood up and raised his crutch. The whole cafeteria seemed to grow silent as Jacob screamed protests. They all stared at Jacob sympathetically like he was getting dragged to his death or something.
"DO SOMETHING PEOPLE! PLEASE!" Jacob screamed at them. Only Chaya and Grover were trying to push through the crowd that was gathering around them.
When Mia dragged him through the doors and shut them, he felt as if a piece if his heart was torn. Obviously he wasn't in a good situation right now. Something bad was about to happen; he could feel it in his bones.
"Jacob Froushwits! What are you doing here?! You don't belong!" Mia said in a very satanic voice.
"I-I just came here for school! What else would i be doing here? I mean, what are YOU doing here? Obviously you aren't here for school," Jacob mumbled.
"I'm here to kill you!"
"Woah woah woah! Hold up! You're messing with me! Right?" Jacob said as Mia started to step towards him. At that second, the door knob moved. Mia flicked her wrist and the door shut tight on someone's fingers. There was a scream and some banging. Jacob stared at Mia in disbelief.
"You-you locked them in!"
"Yeah, demigod.Never seen a ventus before? Oh yeah. That's right! You've never seen one because you've never been in a real fight before. Isn't that just pathetic!"
"What did you just call me? Demi-what? What's a ventus?!"
"DIE NOW!" she screamed as she lunged at him. As she did so she transformed. The things sticking out of her back were more clear now. They were gray wings that looked like smoke. She seemed to be made of entirely smoke.
His mind automatically turned to ADHD mode and he sidestepped. She snarled and he turned. He shot towards doors and ran outside. He didn't stop until he had ran into the middle of a random woods. He stopped to catch his breath for only a few seconds, then continued.
Soon he came to a road, and on the other side of the road was a cattle pasture. He crossed the road with ease, and ran along the fence. Mia- or the ventus; whoever she was- caught up with him.
The only way to lose this thing is to get lost in trees and stuff, he thought. He crossed the street again in a sharp turn and bolted into the woods.
Soon, when he thought he lost the ventus, he came to a clearing. A creek ran through it, and a rock stood in the middle of it on an island surrounded by the creek. It reminded him of a castle and a moat.
The huge rock was shaped like a fist, and he somehow knew that it wasn't coincidence. He waded through the water and thought how it would feel so good to sit down for a while. He climbed to the top of the rock and looked where he had been only a moment before. The ventus was nowhere in sight. He sighed a breath of relief and slid to the floor. He shut his eyes and relaxed.
It must've started to sprinkle a little because water sprayed his cheeks. He didn't mind; it felt pretty relaxing to him.
He opened his eyes to see a boy around the age of 18 or so with black hair and green eyes. He shivered with the thought of meeting another green eyed person.
He then realized that water was swirling around him, and the boy seemed to think it was normal.
"He lives!" He teased.
"Who are you, and where am I?" Jacob asked.
"Oh how rude of me! My name's Percy Jackson," the boy introduced.
"Jacob Froushwits," he said quickly.
"Well then, Jacob, let's get going," he nodded and the water subsided. He turned and jumped. Jacob rushed to the side, but Percy landed unhurt in the water.
"Woah woah woah wait! Go where?!" Jacob cried.
"To camp. You came in unexpectedly, and you'll come in unexpectedly," Jacob followed him reluctantly.
"So tell me about yourself, Jacob," Percy said.
"Well, i don't have a dad for one thing. I live with my mom. I have two best friends, Chaya and Grover and-" Jacob explained.
"Wait a second. Did you say Grover?" Percy interrupted.
"Yeah, why?"
"Does he have crutches?" Jacob looked at Percy in confusion. How did he know? Jacob thought.
"Yeah.... do you know him?" Jacob replied slowly.
"He's my best friend. Well, until he went missing about a month ago,"
"I've known him for about a month, actually," Percy looked like his brain was going a million miles per hour. Suddenly, his face turned pale.
"Percy? You don't look too good. You ok?" Jacob pointed out.
"Hey, where is he now?" Jacob hadn't thought about that part.
"I came straight from my school. He was there. He- he's probably still there!"
"With a monster?" Percy turned a shade paler. Jacob felt totally guilty. Could Grover defend himself? Is that why Percy was nervous?
"Most likely. The monster- the ventus- that attacked me, disappeared. I out ran her, and i don't know where she is now. Grover is probably fine thought," Jacob explained. Percy regained color in him face and sighed.
"I hope your right. I'm not feeling anything from Grover but anxiety. I have this thing called an Empathy Link with him. I can tell what he's feeling. I can also see where he is sometimes through dreams. Not all the time, but sometimes. I rescued him from a cyclops once. That was... interesting," they continued to walk in silence, until they came to a ring of cabins that made a shape like a Greek omega, Ω, and walked right passed them. He led Jacob to a big, farm like house. Behind him, he could feel eyes trained on him.
"This is where our camp director is. His name is Chiron. Go on," Percy urged. He looked behind him and saw that there were at least 100 kids staring at him. Some of them were half goat. He remembered that they were called satyrs from his Latin class. Girls and boys melted out of the trees and leaned against them. Dryads or naiads? Jacob thought. He didn't either were right, but he didn't care.
He stepped towards the house and climbed the steps, careful not to slip. Once he reached the door, he hesitated. He wasn't sure why, but it didn't feel right. He could hear murmuring from behind him. He knocked on the door lightly. The door opened, and there sat his Latin teacher.
"Mr Bruner?" Jacob asked surprised.
"Hello, Jacob. Welcome home!"
