5: The dreams begin

Jacob dreamt he was in a deep hole far beneath the earth. All around him was darkness that stretched for miles, and little tufts of flames blew here and there. The ground underneath him was a red, cracked, ancient stone; it was worn by hundreds of years of feet traveling upon it.
Jacob ran around trying to figure out if civilization was near. No such luck. Then, the ground shook as if a giant force was laughing at his puny attempts to escape.
"Trust me, child. You can't escape this place!" it rumbled. It seemed to be coming from everywhere at once. It/his deep, muscular voice rung with power.
"Who are you? Where am I? What do you want?" Jacob asked firmly.
"Who am I? Boy you should be more educated than that. As to where you are, why that's a more simple answer," he paused for more effect.
"You are in the worst, most dangerous place in Hell. You are in Tartarus my little friend!" he laughed. Jacob's body trembled; his bones felt like jelly. He couldn't focus right. The world was spinning too fast for him to stand. He felt himself fall to the floor. Only the floor wasn't there, just a huge hole sucking him up. He kept falling and falling, never to reach solid ground again.

Jacob woke up screaming. He grabbed on to the nearest thing and held tight. That thing happened to be Percy's face.
"Dude, please get off. You're suffocating me," Percy mumbled. Jacob reluctantly got off of Percy's head and sat down. He was on a soft, cushioned bed; all around him was more beds filled with kids his age. They all seemed either ill, injured, or unconscious. Jacob hoped that the wolf attack was just a dream, like his dream about Tartarus.
"Was that a dream? The wolf attack?" Jacob asked hopefully. Percy's face said it all.
      "I'm sorry Jacob. It wasn't a dream,"
"But Chiron said i was safe here!" Jacob protested.
"I did indeed," a voice came from behind. He turned around to see Chiron. Sort of. He was tall, maybe about six foot two or something, and his lower half was a horse.
"Umm, Chiron? Why are you half horse? Wait, wait, wait! Don't tell me! You're a centaur?" Jacob guessed. He smiled.
"Right indeed child. You are taking this demigod thing quite nicely. Usually kids would be freaking out right about now," Chiron explained. Jacob turned to Percy.
"What was that thing that attacked us?"
"Good question. I think it was some kind of hell hound. Maybe like the master hell hound or something. I'm not really sure," Percy shrugged. Chiron seemed to know who it was.
"Chiron, don't you know?" Jacob asked pleadingly.
"Ah child, that is something you must figure out on your own," Chiron said.
"Chiron, I know that you are wise and stuff, but stop with the secrets please! You do this all the time! Please stop," Percy seemed very annoyed. Chiron only smiled and trotted away. Percy sighed.
"We'll figure it out eventually," Percy said, standing up. "Let's finish the tour,"
Jacob got up slowly, but managed to stand. He walked in a limp. His stomach hurt him most.
"Hey, Percy, um, didn't you say that this place was the only place that'd I'd be safe?" Jacob asked Percy as they walked toward a cabin.
"I did. This place is safe, but very rarely does a monster attack. Usually they are under control, but i guess unusual things happen. Somebody had to summon that hell hound that attacked earlier. The only hell hound that is safe here, is my pet, Mrs. O'leary," Percy replied.
"You have a pet hell hound?"
"Yep. She used to be Daedalus's pet,"
"Wait, Daedalus is real?"
"Yep,"
"Didn't he build the Labyrinth?"
"Indeed," Percy replied. His face was full of pain as if the name brought back bad memories.
      "Hey what's wrong?"
"Oh it's nothing," he lied. They kept walking until they came to a large, cabin.
"This is the Hermes cabin. They take in demigods who are undetermined," Percy explained.
      "Undetermined?"
"It means we don't know who your godly parent is,"
      "Oh. Why Hermes?"
"Hermes is the god of travelers, and his children are kind enough to make a place for those who don't have a cabin," Percy said, walking up to the door. "Welcome home."
Jacob stepped inside and the cabin went silent. It was a big, brown cabin packed with campers.
"Oh, just a warning, you might want to keep an eye on all your possessions. Hermes is also the god of thieves," Percy warned. He winked and left. Jacob turned his head towards the kids. He smiled nervously at them. A kid walked up and put out his hand.
"The name's Arden Sulven, son of Hermes. I'm the cabin leader. What's your name?" Arden greeted.
"Jacob Froushwits. Undetermined," Jacob felt he said the wrong thing and would end up embarrassing himself.
"Welcome in, Jacob!" Then he turned to his brothers and sisters. "This is your new cabin mate, Jacob!"
Everyone smiled and came up to greet him. He caught a few names: Alexis, James, Britney, Jessica, Lukas, Johnathan, and Al.
He felt overwhelmed when everyone sat back down on their bunks. Some even sat on sleeping bags. He stepped outside to get some air.
He headed towards the woods. He walked past a cabin that looked pretty dangerous; it was covered in barbed wire and splatted with red-colored water. At least he hoped it was red-colored water. He passed a cabin that looked very normal, except he could see tons and tons of books through the window. There was a blue, marbled cabin with seashells and water.
Next there was a big white cabin made of pure marble. It looks like one of those temples you see in movies, Jacob thought. It had huge pillars that stretched into the sky. It had streaks of gold mixed in as well.
"That's Zeus's cabin. King of the gods," a voice said behind him. He probably jumped a few feet in the air. He spun around on his ankles and came face to face with a girl.
"The name's Clarisse, daughter of Ares," she introduced, holding out her hand. He knew that Ares was the god of war, so he was cautious. He extended his hand and shook it.
She grabbed his hand back and pulled him. She threw him into the air and stepped back to watch him fall to the ground. He screamed as he pummeled to the ground; just like in his dream.
Clarisse laughed her head off. Just then, a vine from a nearby tree grabbed his waist and stopped his fall. The vine set him standing on his feet right in front of her face.
"How- what?" Clarisse was flabbergasted. She, for once, was completely speechless.
"I don't know. It just happens in times of need. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to continue on the to woods. Thank you," he spun around to see a bunch of campers surrounding him in awe.
"Who could his dad be?" someone asked.
"How did he do that?" said another. Jacob couldn't explain it. He also didn't know how he did it. I'm just one with nature, he thought.
He pushed through the crowd and ran into the woods. There were protests coming from behind, but he didn't care. He had to go get Grover.
