This Mess That We Are

The Cast and His Cast

(Again vid shown above has nothing to do with actual chapter. It's just there bc I found it online and never knew how much I needed it in my life)

In the room sat a his friends and a couple of people Evan didn't recognize. He took a seat on the edge of the stage as the drama teacher, Ms. Jasmine, steps up.
"Okay, students time to meet your cast associates."

"Christine as Peggy, and Maria"
"Hey everyone," Christine said in a bubbly tone.

"Jake as king George."
"Okay," a jockey boy replied.

"Rich as Hercules and Madison."
"Wassup losers," a boy with a red streak in his hair said. Presumably Rich.

"Jared as Lafayette and Jefferson."
"Yerp."

"And Zoe Murphy as Angelica."
"I will never be SATISFIED!" Zoe yelled at the top of her lungs.

"Okay now that we have all met, let's get to work." Ms. Jasmine said.

"Okay." The group replied in unison.

"First thing to work on, is stage presence."

"What do you mean?" Evan asked meekly.

"I mean confidence," she said while passing out scripts." I want you to chose any random piece, from your characters lines or songs and say them in your most confident voice. Christine, you first."

"Okay," she said as she flipped through her script copy." I would love to say a Peggy quote but literally all she says is 'and Peggy'."

"Well then sing a Maria part." Jared pressed.

"Fine if the slut is what you want." Christine shot back as she rose from her velvety seat in the from row.

She dramatically draped her hair over one eye, and dragged Connor upstage with her.

"I know you are a man of honor, I'm so sorry to bother you at home.." she sang deeply.

She continued to sing but Evan had zoned out. All he could see was the blush doused across Connor's face. Jealousy pooled in the pit of his stomach. Why was his boyfriend blushing at Christine? Then he realized he was to be Connor's wife. That made him laugh.

People turned to him, expressions of confusion obvious on their faces. Michael turned his direction.

"You good dude?"

"Yeah, I-I'm fine, just thinking."

"Okay."

And as quickly as it started the scene was over, with both Connor and Christine looking uncomfortable.

"Great performance you two, next up Zoe Murphy." Ms. Jasmine called out.

Zoe sat up and started to sing bits and pieces of satisfied. Evan knew each word by heart.

'If I tell her that I love him she'd be silently resigned, he'd be mine, she would say I'm fine, she'd be lying!'

Just then Evan was struck with the knowledge that Zoe was Connor's sister, and her being in love with him, was pretty damn funny.
