Chapter One: Gotcha

"Excited to get back to school? Meet a cute guy?" Nick teased.

Jeff laughed, throwing a pillow at him. "Shut up."

Nick shrieked with laughter as the pillow hit him. "Help! Abuse!"

Jeff laughed, moving over to him and tickling him. He was laughing uncontrollably, futilely trying to swat Jeff's hands away.

Eventually Jeff got Nick pinned to the mattress, holding his wrists down. They were breathtakingly close. "Gotcha," he whispered. There was a pause, a moment of hesitation.

Then Jeff leaned down to kiss him, Nick leaning up at the same time. It was clumsy and gentle at the same time.

When they broke apart Nick looked up at Jeff, eyes wide with wonder and lips parted slightly. Jeff was looking back at him with the same expression.

The door opened and they both looked over, startled. Nick's mother, who was in the doorway, raised an eyebrow. "I heard you two boys quiet for once, I was afraid something went terribly wrong."

Nick chuckled. "I'm trapped," he said.

Jeff quickly got off of him, feeling his face heat up. "We're fine, Mrs. Duval."

She pointed her rubber scraper at him. "For the last time, Jeff, call me Madi. Anyways, dinner's almost ready. I made a bit of a surprise since it's the last day of summer."

She turned to leave but Nick stopped her. "Wait, mom." He pointed to the rubber scraper. "Is there frosting on that?"

She winked. "Very astute, Nicky."
