I went for a drive that drive ended up with me parked outside of Marnie's apartment, I wanna at least see some type of movement or her face.

"Giselle!" I heard a low frantic voice from across the street, I leaned forward a bit then turn my body to look back.

"Giselle!"

It was Marnie, she was calling out for Giselle while crying. I reached for my door but notice Giselle running from around the corner with a half a gallon of milk and a box of cereal. Someone was following her, she ran straight for Marnie as the person approaches.

"This is the 3rd time this fucking month Marnie!" the man yells at them as Giselle stands behind Marnie scared.

"How much do I owe you?.."

"No, you keep saying that you're gonna fucking pay me back and you don't! The next time--" He gets ready to say as I approach them, Marnie steps back a bit while moving Giselle.

"The next time what?" I asked him while tilting my head.

"Look, I don't owe any of the families money and this doesn't concern you!" He says to me and I smirked while rubbing my chin with my thumb.

"That's not the answer that I'm looking for, and have some respect, a child is present.. Answer her question, how much does she owe you?"

"$43.00 to be exact!" He hissed and I reached into my pocket then see Marnie shaking her head.

"I got it.. Here.." She reaches into her sweater and attempted to give him the money, he gets ready to snatch it from her with a smile but I caught his hand then swiftly yoke him by the shirt into a friendly choke hold.

"I'm gonna tell you this once only.. Your store makes a great deal of money, you don't need the $43.00! Does this help you sleep at night knowing you just chased a little girl from down the block to here all over some milk and cereal? " I whispered viciously in his ear, he shook his head no repeatedly.

"So how much does she owe you?" I asked him again but loud enough for both Marnie and Giselle to hear, he clears his throat.

"Nothing.." he said and Giselle smiles behind Marnie.

"Thank you, Mister! Mommy, he's one of the guys that I was telling you about! His friend wants to give us tickets to see Cinderella live!"

"No, I'm sorry Giselle.." she says to her as I shove the asshole from the store back in the direction that they ran from.

"But mommy.."

"Sorry to interrupt!" I said but Marnie holds on tighter to Giselle and I understood because she was scared.

"Thank you but you didn't have to do that.. Here..Come on Giselle.." She placed the money in my hand then guided Giselle up the steps.

"Bye, thank you!" Giselle looks back and says, and what else was I suppose to do? I waved back at her and watched a missed opportunity fly out the window.

I walked back to my car then drove across town to my parent's house, my mom was a night owl so I know she's awake.

"Come in, I have Tortellini soup simmering!" She lets me inside.

"Sorry for coming here so late.."

"Never apologize for coming by late, you're my child and the doors always open!" she says as I nodded and we turn into the kitchen.

"Sit, I'll get you a bowl!" She rubs my back as I take a seat at the table and she gets me a bowl of soup.

"Is dad still trying to find out about the robbery?" I asked her and she glances back with a smile.
