"Sorry, was just--"
"It's fine.." I turned my back and began to start walking then heard footsteps behind me and my arm being grabbed.
"What?!" I turned around and asked.
"Can we talk for a second, I haven't seen you in.."
"I don't wanna talk to you honestly, I have to be somewhere!"
"Marnie, we share a child together and you're acting like we aren't supposed to talk!" he says as I crossed my arms while beginning to laugh.
"We stopped sharing a child together when you and your wife petitioned your name off of her birth certificate!"
"Look, that was a misunderstanding! If you'd let me buy you a cup of coffee and we can talk then maybe I can see my daughter too.." he suggests and I moved away from him while still laughing then started to walk away again.
"Marnie!" he called out and I stick my middle finger up at him.
"At least take my number down!"
I kept walking, I walked all the way to the library. I got to fill out a few applications, I used to come here a lot when I was pregnant. The librarian was a big help, she used to bring me extra food and often let me stay with her until she passed away. Her daughter is now the owner of the new upgraded library, she's like her mom and I'll forever be thankful to everyone who's helped me and Giselle!
I counted a few of the dollars that I stole from Adam this morning, I'm starting to get hungry. I looked around and spotted a local deli, I crossed the street then slowly entered the deil. I looked around the busy store and got ready to exit to go somewhere else but heard my name being called.
"Marnie!"
"I have to go.." I lied, I just needed to get out of here. This was the second time in the past 24 hours that we've run into one another, he's probably trying to kill me even though I gave him the ring back but the other jewels were sold. The mafia doesn't take these things lightly and Adam said they were out for blood so this could be a trap and I just walked into it.
"Hey.." he was able to get in front of me and stop me.
"I wasn't going to steal anything.."
"I never said you were but hey, I never got to introduce myself last night.." he says while taking his gloves off then sticking his hand out, I looked down at it.
"I know your name.. I'm sorry for what my family did.. If you want, I'll take full credit and I'll try to pay you guys back.." I offered and he laughs.
"I don't know what you're referring to but I assumed you came into my uncle's deli for a reason, grocery shopping or a quick bite to eat! "
"Passing by, looking for some place to get a bite to eat." I explained and he gestures his thumb back in the direction of the deli.
"Today was his busy day and I help from time to time, I can make you a sandwich!"
"Umm.."
"I don't bite, I also wanna give this back to you.." he reaches in his pocket this gives me my ring.
"Thank you! This, this means a lot to me! " I said with a smile because I thought I lost it and I didn't.
"You're welcome."
I turned my body a bit and we both walked back into the deli, he freshened up then went back behind the counter.
"Okay, tell me what you want! We have different breads, all freshly made by my Nonna!" He showed me the different sections of bread in the window, I pointed at one of them.
