Confessions Under the Canopy~

Hyunseong was being dragged into the school’s back garden by Jungmin. Jungmin was walking and pulling Hyunseong along with him, swiftly. He was quiet the whole way. Hyunseong couldn’t see Jungmin’s face, but he really wanted to. He knew his best friend was crying and he knew that he was partly the cause of it. He was normally so calm and composed.

‘I can’t believe I completely lost it,’ Hyunseong thought. He began to mentally pound himself down and by the time they got to the garden, he was covered with purple bruises. Of course, that was only in his mind~ Why would he hurt his beautiful face?~

The two reached the garden and was now standing under a marble canopy that had vines crawling up the poles that held it up. Jungmin had released his hold on Hyunseong and was now standing three feet away, with his back facing his friend. The two stood there in silence for what seemed like an eternity. The silence was making Hyunseong feel nervous and he wanted to break the awkward silence, but nothing seemed to come out.

“What the hell was that back there?” Jungmin asked, his tone only a little louder than a whisper.

Hyunseong felt relieved that someone spoke, but was also a little tongue tied because he didn’t know what to say.

Jungmin turned to Hyunseong with tear stained cheeks. “You always keep your cool. What happened?”

Hyunseong continued to stay silent. What was he suppose to say? Because he pushed the one I love? Pfft. Right. That’s the beginning to the end of their friendship and Hyunseong would do anything to prevent that from happening. Even if it meant that he had to lock his feelings away in a little pink, floral jewelry box. Yes, it’s pink and floral. Shows how manly Hyunseong really is~

Jungmin wiped away his tears and was now looking at Hyunseong, anger showing on his face.

“Why won’t you answer me?” Jungmin sniffed. “Do you know how scared I was back there?! I thought you were going to get killed!”

Jungmin’s worries brought happiness to Hyunseong. ‘He really does care for me,’ Hyunseong thought, feeling a little giddy.

“What if it scared Minwoo?! What would he think of me?!”

Happy feelings gone.

Hyunseong’s feelings of happiness were quickly replaced with high irritation.

“Is this really the time to be thinking about someone else?” Hyunseong asked, looking at Jungmin with a scowl. “I almost got into a fight because of you.”

“Because of me? Why would you do such a stupid thing? You seriously could’ve scared poor Minwoo!” Jungmin scolded as his voice began to get a smidge louder.

Hyunseong scoffed, rolling his eyes as he looked to the side. He turned back to Jungmin and asked, “Are you freakin’ serious?”

“Of course I’m serious! Shim Hyunseong, you big babo!”

Jungmin was now fuming and heaving. He was tired from crying and yelling. This was the first time that he and Hyunseong had fought in that way and it was foreign to him. He was not used to it and was glad that he wasn’t. He did not like the feeling of fighting with his best friend. For some strange reason, it caused a deep piercing pain in his chest. Why did it hurt so much?

Hyunseong was now looking directly at Jungmin, a look of disbelief taking over his features. What the hell was his BEST FRIEND saying? Did a boy whom he just met mean more to him than his friend? Did he really mean that little to him? Thoughts like these flowed around Hyunseong’s head and it was causing him great pain. Out of impulse, he shoved Jungmin against one of the canopy’s poles and pinned him there, his hand planted firmly on Jungmin’s shoulder.

“Yah! What are you doing?!” Jungmin asked, feeling the painful impact on his back.

“Yah, Lee Jungmin,” Hyunseong started, his voice low and husky.

Hyunseong’s voice ran through Jungmin’s body like electricity and sent goose bumps all over his body. His heart began to beat faster, threatening to jump out. Hyunseong’s voice had always affected him in that way. Why was that? What was going on?

Hyunseong continued, his voice calm and collected, “Stop being so selfish. Think about me for a second won’t you?”

“W-what are you talking about?” Jungmin asked, looking straight into Hyunseong’s orbs and then turning away right afterwards.

“It’s always been Minwoo, Minwoo, Minwoo since school started. Minwoo did this. Minwoo did that. Why can’t you think about my feelings for a change?”

Jungmin’s head shot back up and he was now looking at Hyunseong in the face once again.

“What do you mean?”

Hyunseong kept his eyes concentrated on Jungmin for few more seconds before heaving out a sigh. He hung his head and was getting ready to do what he was about to do. He lifted his head and locked eyes with Jungmin, keeping them in place. He then leaned in closer and planted his lips onto Jungmin’s thin ones. He gave Jungmin a passionate kiss that relayed all his feelings over to the smaller boy, knowing full well of the consequences that would come right after. The kiss wasn’t deep and Jungmin’s lips stayed closed the whole time, but it was enough for Jungmin to know Hyunseong’s deepest darkest secret and his truest feelings.

Jungmin’s eyes were wide open. Countless thoughts and feelings came rushing into him at once and it rendered him speechless. What could he say? What could he do?

Hyunseong pulled away from Jungmin’s lips and released his hold on Jungmin’s shoulder and stood straight up. He looked at Jungmin’s expression and felt immediate regret. He brushed his hair and heaved out another sigh.

‘Great, I knew this would happen.’

The look on Jungmin’s face made his heart tighten. What had he done? How could he do that to his friend? It was too sudden. He could’ve dealt with it another way, but he didn’t and now it was too late to change anything.

Hyunseong reached out to pat Jungmin’s head and then turned to leave.

“I’m sorry.” Was the last thing Jungmin heard before Hyunseong disappeared from his sight, leaving him there, lost in his thoughts.
