Jeongguk was arguing with his father, the king, because he didn't want to marry someone he never had seen before but his father was stubborn. "Why can't I decide on my own who I'll marry. It's my life, I already accepted to be the future king, even though I didn't want it."
His father sighed but he couldn't give in, it was too important for the future of the kingdoms. "I explained it already Jeongguk, we need the marriage. The other kingdom is powerful and the king is my best friend since forever. We had a deal way before you or Namjoon were even born."
Jeongguk hit the table with his fist, it was useless to discuss with his father. "Fine, I'll accept if you let me go on a last trip before my life is over. I'll be back in time, don't worry."
His father thought for a moment but agreed. He also was forced to marry someone whom he didn't know - Namjoon's mother. He learned to love her but she died right after he was born and found soon a new love, Jeongguk was the result of this love and he couldn't be happier.
Namjoon decided to change his surname from Jeon to Kim, to honour his mother.
Jeongguk and Namjoon love each other, there was no jealousy or serious fight between them, even though Jeongguk envied him because he could marry whom he wanted.
