Chapter 8

Friday May 11th 2012

“And please do not worry.” Miss Hughes continued as I put my French text book into my bag. It was the last five minutes of the day and it was my French lesson before my French exam which was on Monday just after lunch. I chewed on my lip nervously, after my art exam which I had done a few weeks back French was my second subject that I needed to excel at. I still had no idea what I wanted to become when I was older, I liked the sound of being a professional artist but what were the chances of staying afloat on the money side of things being an artist, but if I did make it I would be the happiest girl in the world.

The bell rang and the less enthusiastic stayed behind, I pulled my bag onto my back and started for the door.

“Em?” Miss Hughes was the only one to call me by my nickname. I turned to look at her and smiled wryly; I had been stressing about this exam for a week now and hadn’t really seen Jase outside of school apart from the ride home. “Are you okay?” I chewed my lip. “Emily,” she sighed and sat on the edge of one of the tables. “You don’t need to worry, you’ve studied haven’t you?” I nodded. “Then don’t worry. Have this weekend off, relax, see your friends and on Sunday night look over the words before going to bed and you’ll be fine.”

I nodded. “Thanks Miss.” I said smiling. If I got into sixth form I was going to do fine art and graphics, French and I think Physics just in case I went into the architectural part of art.

“No problem.” She smiled. “J’espère que vous avez un bon week-end”

“Et vous” I said smiling and walking out into the corridor. I walked to the bus stop and got onto our bus trying not to gag at the smell. Instead of going to the bottom deck I went up the stairs and went to the back where Jase was waiting for me. “Hey.” I said smiling as I sat next to him, he put his arm around my shoulder and I nestled into the crook of his arm.

“You okay?” he asked, he knew I’d been worrying about the exam next week and I nodded, I felt better now that I had someone’s support that I would do fine. As I nodded Craig came storming on a face like thunder. “Hey man, what’s up?” Craig sat down in front of us.

“Nothing.” He grunted.

“Craig?” I whispered trying to comfort him, he seemed really upset.

“I don’t need your pity Emily.” He snapped and I flinched back. Emily, he’d called me Emily, I was always his Emmy. I looked down at my hand like I’d been hit or something.

“Craig, don’t snap at her. Whatever’s got you pissed it has nothing to do with her.”

“Maybe it has everything to do with her.” He said turning and looking at me, his eyes were so cold and fierce it made tears spring to my eyes. I closed my eyes trying to hide them. “Stop crying.” He hissed. I opened my eyes to look at him, the freezing fire was calming slightly and I could see the worry in his eyes. I closed my eyes again not liking how mean he was being to me and rested my head in the nook of Jase’s neck.

“Has anyone seen Sammie?” Seth asked his voice pinched slightly with stress. They were officially together now apparently but Sammie still made a point of glaring at me in the hallway.

“She’s probably with Leanne.” Craig said moodily, maybe that was the core of the problem and he was just taking it out on me. I looked to where they all sat, they liked to sit in the back where you could fit six but there were usually only four. The normal girls weren’t there either. Daisy, Stefanie and I think the last was called Chastity or Destiny or something like that. But none of them were here, actually the only girls who were here were Ginny and I.
