Chapter Two: Independence
ALICE
"Well that completes the roommate tag. I think Carrie and I are perfect together, don't you agree Carrie?"
I turned to Carrie who muttered 'help me' at the camera. I couldn't keep the laughter back and next thing I know we are both laughing instead of ending the video. We managed to stop laughing for a couple of minutes so I could finish my outro.
"Well we also filmed video on Carrie's channel so click on her face to go and watch some comedy gold. I'll also link it in the description with all our social media. If you liked the video give it a big thumbs up, until next week my loyal subjects Alice out."
I let Carrie cover the lens with her hands to involve her more. I know it was overused on YouTube but it was a classic way to end your videos. I leant forward and turned the camera off before flopping back on my bed, Carrie soon joined me.
"What do you want to do now?"
Carrie rolled over on her side and I mirrored her move.
"How about food?"
Carrie nodded vigorously when I mentioned food, it was common knowledge that whenever someone mentioned the possibility of food or eating that the mood in the room changed for the better.
We both got up off the bed which was hard because it was so damn comfy. Carrie trotted out of my bedroom and I was just about to follow her when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. The caller ID said Finn which I immediately answered.
F: "Hey girlfriend"
A: "Hey boyfriend"
F: "What are you doing?"
A: "Just finished recording with Carrie, planning on grabbing some food before she has to head off to the theatre. What about you?"
F: "Editing footage from New York, it was amazing you should have been there you'd have loved it."
I rolled my eyes, glad that there was a phone between us. Finn and I had a pretty big argument and he just got on a plane to New York with his brother and a couple of friends without even telling me.
To this date I can't remember what we even argued about but it was enough to make him run away for a week. Of course we quickly made up, because I was one of those people who couldn't stay mad at their boyfriend for long and well I think Finn has me wrapped around his little finger.
I just wanted to change the subject.
A: "I can't wait to see the final project."
What, I could play the supportive girlfriend card when the time called or it.
F: "You really are an amazing girl Alice."
A: "And you're an alright above average guy Finn."
We both chuckled. We may have had a couple of down moments in our relationship but overall we'd been pretty smooth sailing.
F: "Do you want to come around later?"
A: "I'm actually meeting up with Ben, Chris, Tom, Jack, Dean and maybe PJ to discuss a new film project they want me to help out with. I don't know what time that will finish plus I'm heading back to Brighton tonight with Joe for a couple of days to see Zoe."
Finn paused on the other end of the line; I could hear him sighing in frustration. Don't ask how I know that, when you date someone you learn some of their habits.
F: "Did you know PJ would be there?"
His tone was quite sharp, why was he asking me this?
A: "PJ has always been part of their film crew, I'm the newcomer Finn. I knew he'd be there when Ben asked me over. Besides there's no bad blood between me and PJ anymore."
F: "God Alice, you don't have to mention his name in every other sentence. I don't like the idea of you two being close in the same room."
Okay now I was a little taken aback. Was Finn still jealous of PJ? Didn't Finn trust me to be around PJ without me wanting to jump his bones? Why didn't Finn trust me? He has no right to say these things to make me judge myself.
I'd judged myself too much in the past and I was now finally growing into my new independence, but it was like Finn was finding ways to shoot me down.
A: "Excuse me Finn, you bought PJ up and now you say that you basically don't trust me. I chose you, I love you Finn. Why do you want to keep me down?"
F: "If PJ hadn't messed up he'd still have been in competition to win your love. Remember you told him that the two of you would always have Brighton, how am I supposed to compete with that?"
I clenched my fists, I'd told Finn that when we were confessing everything to each other after he came back from New York and now he was throwing it in my face. I was beyond pissed, I wasn't some prize you won at the fun fair.
A: "There was never a competition Finn, I'm human and not some prize to be played around with. Maybe it's a good thing that I'm going to Brighton because right now I don't even want to be in the same city as you, my boyfriend who basically just degraded me over the phone."
I hung up before Finn could reply with some soppy apology that I'd probably fall for just like I always did. Finn was suppose to be my happily ever after, my prince charming. Where was the sweet guy I fell in love with? I didn't even recognise him anymore.
FINN
She hung up on me, I threw my phone across the room but Jack caught it. How much of my conversation had he heard? I mentally face palmed myself, I had the call on loudspeaker so he'd probably heard everything.
"Why Finn?"
I didn't need Jack playing the righteous card on me, I wasn't in the mood.
"You know how I feel about PJ. She still has the photo of the two of them together with ice cream on their noses on her phone and laptop for god sake."
I ran my hand through my hair. I knew some of the things I said towards the end were harsh, I wanted to apologise but I had a feeling I should let Alice calm down for a couple of days.
Jack placed my phone on the desk and took the chair next to me.
"You can just be friends with someone Finn without having feelings for them anymore. You heard her Finn, she chose you because she loves you. You're in the wrong for telling her that you don't trust her."
I shook my head; I didn't want to listen to the truth Jack was laying on me. I loved Alice, right? Wait I shouldn't be questioning our relationship. I love Alice Sugg, this fight surely wouldn't send us over the edge would it?
She'd come back from Brighton in a couple of days and I'd take her out for a nice meal to say sorry. We'd get through this together, unless she found out my secret.
"Fine I admit you're right again brother."
Jack smirked like an idiot and turned his attention back towards the computer screen. We had a lot of footage to edit, New York was one of my favourite trips but also one of my worst.
