Snowed In
5. Shopping

"Vivian, darling?” Mrs. Hemming asked, curiosity filling her voice. I looked at her, wondering what she had to ask. Hopefully it wasn’t on my background; because that’s one conversation I’m not very interested in having
Liz looked at me, up and down. Not distastefully, but slightly confused. I know she was looking at my clothes. From the corner of my eye, I saw Aspen sneering at my appearance. I totally forgot that I was still wearing Luke’s clothes, just a different pair from yesterday. I probably looked ridiculous wearing an oversized flannel and baggy track pants for the second day in a row. Especially with Aspen sitting across from me in a designer dress, looking like she just came from a red carpet event. But, I'm sorry not everyone can look like they're about to walk a runway 24/7.
"Are these the only clothes you have?" Mrs. Hemmings questioned hesitantly, obviously not wanting to offend me.
"You'd think that the girlfriend would dress classily." Aspen scoffed under her breath, raising her hear head haughtily and glancing at me superciliously. At least Ashton had the decency to care about my feelings, as he gave her a scolding look.
"These are Luke's clothes, actually. I lo-"
"I should have known that the only reason she and Luke are together were because of their sex life." Aspen sneered, flipping her hair over her shoulder.
Ashton glared at Aspen again, and told her to be nice and behave herself for the umpteenth time.
Liz also shot a judging look at Aspen, then turned back to me saying, “Continue what you were saying, sweetie.”
I smiled in appreciation, “As I was saying, my clothes were lost on the flight here, so I had to borrow some of Luke’s.” Once I finished talking, I glanced over at Aspen satisfied with my explanation. She just rolled her eyes at me.
“Well then you must go shopping! I’ll take you, my treat!” Liz grinned, “And you come too, Aspen.”
Aspen grinned back at Liz, obviously accepting her option. I mean why wouldn’t she? What kind of fashion model would she be if she denied an invitation to a shopping spree?
So after we got ready, we left to go into town. The ride to the center of the small city was slightly long, but very peaceful as I watched the white snow slowly drift onto the ground. I never see snow in California, so it was a nice thing to finally see. I remember wanting to see some all throughout my childhood. I’m actually surprised that I didn’t take the time to appreciate it when I first got here.
Finally we pulled up to a small parking lot, most of which was empty, in the center of town. Around it were small little shops, giving of an instant homey feeling. I wish I could live in a place like this year round, or at least like this for a small break when needed. The bustling city of Los Angeles can be very exciting, but is always extremely busy and exhausting.
Directly across the street was a small bakery, in the window an elaborate ginger bread house and displays of cookies and decorative cupcakes. I felt an instant longing what I saw the shop, but decided I should probably go after shopping, since Liz took us here to buy clothes not sweets. Not to mention, I doubt Aspen would enjoy the calories in all the treats.
Once we were all out of the car, Liz lead the way to what I assumed would be a clothing store. We passed by a Burberry store, which I was surprised was here in such a small area, and I could practically feel Aspen’s desperate look at the signature plaid scarf in the window. But instead of going in there, we entered a small shop called “Rose’s”, probably named after the owner. Or they could possibly have a love for the flower.
