It was a quiet Friday afternoon, and I was taking a walk in town. A lot of people are out and about, but I tend to ignore them.

As I was walking, I kinda got bored, so I started kicking a rock while watching the cracked, grey, and weathered sidewalk. I was a little ways from home... But I didn't want to go home.

My parents are belittling and abusive. They usually hit me, or make comments such as, 'You're worthless' or 'You should go on a diet, you fat disgusting pig', when the truth is I pretty much hate myself and I'm average weight for my age and height.

While lost in my thoughts, I hear a whistle. Ugh.

"Hey baby how are you doin', huh?" I hear the infamous player say.

Dallas Winston and his gang of greasers. Just, ugh. I'm really not in the mood for the known flirt of pretty much the entire town.

"Hey chick, ya didn't answer me," he says as he stumbles towards me, cigarette hanging out of his mouth.

"Dallas, I'm really not in the mood for your bullshit right now"

"Oh yeah, sure. I bet you can't resist me." He drapes his arm lazily around my neck and I quickly shove it off of me and start walking faster.

"Like I said, Dallas, I'm really not in the mood."

I can see his gang walking towards us in my peripheral vision. I'm not very familiar with any of them, except for Dallas. That being because, of course, he can't keep his mouth shut, and everyone talks about him.

"How about this. You, and me, tonight."

"In your dreams, Winston."

And it isn't long before he's running up to me again. "Oh come on, ba-"

He was cut off by one of his friends.
"Dal, that's enough. You should probably leave her alone."

I turn around to see a dreamy boy about my age. He has perfectly tanned skin, long, black, greased back hair, and eyes that looked like they were made of melted chocolate.

"Johnny, what's it to ya? You. You think that you? Can tell me? What to do?"

"Nah I don't think that, Dally. But just this once you sure need to leave her alone." While the conversation was going on, Johnny, I think that's what Dallas called him, had slowly stepped closer to me.

"Jeez, kid. You never know when to stop. I'm outta here." Dally said as he left, but not before winking at me.

I turned to the young boy. "Thanks."

"No problem," he replied. "Just doin' what any decent person would do."

He turned to walk away, but I still wanted to know more about this mysterious stranger.

"Umm, wait a second," I said.

He turned back around and looked at me. "Yeah?" The boy asked.

I hesitated, and finally worked up the courage to speak. "Your name is Johnny, right?"

"Um, yeah?" He answered.

"I'm (Y/N)."

"Oh... Nice to meet ya."

"Nice to meet you too. Cya 'round!"

We turned around and walked our separate ways.

But little did I know, that the kid and I were one in the same. Little did I know, that kid was shy. Real shy. But meeting me gave him courage.
